we can see more clearly

Fatal surgery. The film focuses on a phenomenon that is very rare in medicine - anesthesia awakening, when a patient regains consciousness or feels pain during an operation after being anesthetized, but his body cannot move. I think in simple terms, it's like a ghost pressing down on your body.
The same is the wakefulness of sleep.
When I was a kid, I remember being very afraid of sleeping for a while. Once you fall asleep, you will face the pain of going out of your body. It is very clear that the links in every part of my body are very sharp. But, I also know that I'm not moving, I can't move. In front of me is a large swirl of milky white, but I can't escape.
Many times I struggled to pinch myself with my fingernails or bite my tongue. It hurts a lot. But when I really woke up, I couldn't even find a trace, let alone pain.
It’s fine if it’s just that, and what’s more entangled is that kind of precognition dream. I don't know when to dream, I don't know which dream will predict. If I want to know, I have to wait until I experience it myself before awakening. It's like God playing a big joke on you. Like Angry Birds, draw a line with your finger, and you follow the trail obediently and hit it, even struggling is a luxury.

Awake quotes

  • Clay Beresford: So it's tough love today, huh?

Dr. Jack Harper: You think this is a joke?

  • Dr. Jack Harper: [closing narration] At 6:32 this morning, on Thursday the 1st of November, Clayton Beresford Jr. died on my operating table. Two and a half hours later, his life was saved. There are no excuses for what we did. There's no defense, no-one to blame but us. We got what we deserved. Clay would have his revenge, and justice would finally be served. But despite all the secrets, despite all the lies, and a terrible loss, one thing really matters now. He... is... awake.
