2012 Awakened Nineties Syndrome (title not related to content)

Whatever you want to say, you must digress.

In the past year, I think that the most common sentence I said when I reposted commercial ACG intelligence on Weibo was "it's really 2012". Countless old classics have been reset and refurbished and brought to the screen, just like the flashbacks before death. In addition to awakening the infinite reminiscence of the majority of comic fans for the life of junior high school and high school, I have to sigh that the works in recent years have become more and more unsatisfactory. In terms of depth, entertainment and entertainment, I feel that it is the same as before. Some of my works hit the ground, and finally I proudly announce: I'm out of the house.
In my impression, "Legend of Sword and Wind" has always been inexplicably installed in the same area of memory as "The Legend of Rhodes Island" and "The Legend of Galactic Heroes". The most typical symptom is that I used to be unable to distinguish Chiang Rai Inhart and Griffith (PS of course I also always feel that Gus and Kenjiro are related). Later, I felt that this was also excusable. Among the gang of rough and pure men, there should always be a long-haired and beautiful man with radiant hair. And it turns out that the reason why I will click on the remastered version of Jianfeng is because Griffith is really beautiful, even if the 3D modeling is sprayed to death, it can't stop my love for the beautiful boy!
Although I have been flipping through the box of compressed discs in the small commodity market to find the TV version of Sword Wind Legend since I was a junior high school student, I have never planned to watch such a movie except for being familiar with it for so many years. Attention is also completely cultivated with the needs of recent work. Although old fans are very picky about this remake, for me, a sneering new audience, I think this theatrical version still captures the essence of the golden age of swordsmanship very well. Later, I also seriously supplemented the comics. I felt that the animation deliberately selected more mature plots, and deleted the plots of how Gus integrated into the Eagle Corps, which seemed to be relatively juvenile comics. Although some viewers think that this weakens the role between members of the Eagle Group, I think it should be beneficial for the brutal atmosphere of the whole work.
Another problem is that the audience is generally dissatisfied with the clear picture. In this regard, I think this is also an understanding of the golden age. The original comics are basically full of a dark and oppressive feeling, but the golden age is a short-lived glory period, and there is nothing wrong with using brighter colors. Originally, these three theatrical versions were meant to destroy beautiful things for people to see, and the bright colors were used at the beginning, perhaps also for the purpose of contrast.
For the portrayal of the characters' feelings and relationships, the theatrical version can be regarded as grasping the essence. Even if you start contacting Jianfeng from this theatrical version, you will not feel weak at all. Personally, I think Legend of Sword and Wind tells a story of dignity and trust. What the two protagonists pursue is their own dignity in each other's minds. Therefore, Griffith will ask Gus "in your eyes, am I a mean person", and Gus will also be shaken by the other party's "but they are not friends".
A series of mentality changes of the protagonists from acquaintance to separation, whether in comics or theatrical version, the performance is quite excellent, and it is worth learning from students who are engaged in screenwriting work. In particular, Gus killed the little boy by mistake. When he had doubts about what he did and needed the comfort of his friends the most, he heard the other party's remarks denying his existence, which had a huge impact. Many people think that the position of the end of the first theatrical version is inappropriate and is not the climax of the plot, but I think on the contrary, psychologically speaking, the position of the final ending is already the pinnacle of depression. Even if you haven't seen the original work and don't know the next plot, there is no doubt that the audience will doubt the trust relationship between the two people, and the breakup is an irreversible fact.
While I admit that my radar has always been sensitive (you know it), Legend of Sword and Wind still reveals a masculinity that has been scarce in recent works. Although the subtitle group I watched couldn't help but remind the audience that philosophical flashbangs are everywhere, I think Jianfeng is much purer from the depths of his consciousness. This is probably the kind of simple manly spirit that the great Blue Star in the 1990s showed before it was occupied by loli and pseudo-girls. To go a little further, when I watched "The Son of Heaven at the Sunrise", I didn't have the gay discomfort of watching some muscular men, and in recent years, many of the so-called youthful guys in many works still have the same symptoms on their bodies. Kind of an unstoppable bastard. Perhaps, this era is no longer the time for period dramas to show their strengths. Everyone prefers lighthearted and pleasant stories to get rid of the pressure and troubles of the three-dimensional. However, no matter when, a serious and grand work can always make people quickly immerse in it, and fear the fate of the protagonist in the work. I would rather go back and watch old films of the 1980s and 1990s with poor picture quality and clarity, rather than the pain of not being in the show for a long time.
Authors, please be more serious about your characters and stories, no matter what kind of character relationship you want to portray, serious feelings are always more masculine than "love and justice" purely for service.
Finally, I want to say: the students who are always arguing about the love of the foundation, if you really want to be cute, or don't be cute about those things that are disturbing for the sake of the foundation, let's see love and kill each other!

A side note: I really thought the second trailer was super well done.

——The dividing line for a little discussion about the plot (long-winded)——
I believe everyone should know the next plot, right? If you don't want to be spoiled for the second part, then don't read it~~~!

Many people don't understand why Griffith went to the princess after losing to Gus. This question seems to be one of the topics that must be discussed when it comes to Jianfeng (touching his chin)
In fact, I think he went to the princess at that time. It's the best way to do it. For a man with a lot of self-esteem, the princess is the only one who trusts him to worship him from the bottom of his heart, and has no knowledge of his past, and the only one who doesn't remind him of defeat.
The loss to Gus coincided with a crack in Griffith's unbreakable belief. The reason why Griffith did not regard the Eagles as his friends was not because he was ruthless, but because his lofty ideals did not allow him to carry more things on his back. It's too important, one day he will be shaken by it and can't go any further. Griffith's blunder was that he inadvertently gained something bigger than a dream. After gaining a partner on a lonely journey, he instead loses the ability to face the future alone. Gus has gone from being a lone rabid dog to a real man with a partner after meeting the Eagles, he is strong because he has gained something important, but for Griffith , the "important things" made him weaker.
Although his beliefs have not changed and his wrists have not changed, he has scruples, and he has something that can weigh with his dreams, and that is the most important person's evaluation of himself. It should be said that men deceive themselves with lofty dreams. In fact, they just yearn for the thorny road where someone can support them behind their backs, right? Gus's departure and stay were decided by force. Gus's desire to leave the Eagle Corps has already been a mental denial of him, and his defeat by force is a proof of his own failure from another aspect.
In addition, I think the most pure man in the legend of Jianfeng is that men always only make decisions without giving reasons. Therefore, from the beginning to the end, the real communication between these two people is based on actions. When we first met, Griffith beat Gus with one move, and finally lost in one move. This looping plot is really very dramatic.
I couldn't finish reading the 18th volume of the manga, mainly because I felt that too many drag scenes were added to the main line, and the rhythm became very poor. This is a personal opinion, but in all fairness, the golden age is also the peak of the sword style that cannot be surpassed.

7/10. The first part actually focuses on freshness, and the darkness of the conspiracy is not revealed. In the second half, Qiong Yao, the classical complex of the knight in love with the princess, is deducted to three stars, but the opening scene of the siege scene uses smooth and atmospheric shots, including ladders, collisions, fireball catapults, and defenders. Going out of the city gate to fight the encounter, the scene jumping in the middle of the bullfighting devil is too big and not good enough. The male protagonist's heavy two-handed sword has a high degree of armor penetration but poor maneuverability, so it is normal for the sword to be drawn slowly during the first battle with Griffith.

As soon as he came up, the man said: I want you! This is too straightforward...

Berserk: The Golden Age Arc I - The Egg of the King quotes

  • Griffith: Why do men like to shed blood, you asked. You are right in saying that it is one of the facets we, men, possess. However, it is but a tool to obtain what our heart desires and keep it from harm's way. I believe it to be a double-edged blade.

Charlotte: What your heart desires... a lover? A knight's honor?

Griffith: Both are important, aren't they? Fighting and dying for love and honor is what a knight desires above all else. But for men there exists something even more important than that. You know of it, I believe.

    Charlotte: More important?

Griffith: It is a dream formulated and fostered for your own sake. Men are entranced by their dreams regardless of birth, rank or social standing. The dream supports them. It makes them suffer and it breathes new life into them. And it kills them. Even after they've given up on it, it continues to smolder in their hearts. All men have a dream at least once in their lives. They imagine themselves being martyrs to the God their dream has become. Others live on powerlessly, birthed into the world. I could not endure such a life.
