When I first saw Neil, I always thought of "Basketball Diary". The appearance is clean and beautiful, and the face is uninhibited. In my opinion, Neil and Brain show two very different attitudes towards difficulties and setbacks (maybe in this movie, that can't be regarded as setbacks), but they are more extreme. Is it to escape until you forget it, or to be calm enough to break the pot?
It's supposed to be a two-star movie, but my eyes are always drawn to Neil. He was different from his peers from an early age. Also growing up in an environment lacking fatherly love, Brain has the protection of his sister and mother, so he has become as delicate and timid as a girl, and Neil, what kind of indifference is that? Neil is not pure in the first place, his excellent performance has a purpose, in order to attract the coach, because of the strong sensuality that he felt at the first meeting. Subsequent episodes made sense to him, too, who was sensitive to sensuality from the start. It should be rare for a boy to feel lust for the first time at the age of 8 when he sees an unfamiliar adult. He has the capital to attract everyone's attention, and he has the capital to be unruly. However, the first time I felt the stars hold the moon should be that summer. That's why he keeps believing it's 'true love' because he chose him and because other boys join him later and won't abandon him.
Brain is poor. Originally thought to be a mysterious and unique experience, the final truth was so unbearable for him. He is the kind of poor kid who was bullied by the whole class and dared not tell the teachers and parents in our class when we were young. He is afraid of all unfamiliar things. When you are afraid of one thing to the point of forgetting, and then self-hypnotize to inquire about the so-called truth beyond recognition, and finally the truth is revealed, what kind of cruelty is this, especially for a boy with such a character.
Let go at the end, I believe Neil can do it, but I don't believe Brain can do it. Neil has done enough for this. When he was sitting on the ground crying with a naked body full of scars, he should have put it down. He wanted to come back, go back to the place where it was unbearable, then release, speak out to everyone other than Wendy, who had the same experience, then leave and start all over again.
For Brain, this was the beginning of his full face of the matter. He wouldn't be another Neil, but he would definitely not suffer less than the Neil of the past.
