- Watching "Wagging the Tail Dog"
Who am I? Where am I? Is the world I see the real world?
After watching the film "Swing Dog", a series of questions filled my mind, which made me involuntarily click the mouse in my hand to learn more about it. I have to say that as a film, it was a success. Because it opened up another world for me, a new world called "political public relations."
What is PR? In my previous mind, it was simply an act of dealing with a crisis, without too much technical content, all it needed was a super broad network of people and a mouth that could turn black and white. now what? I admit that my thinking has changed a lot, even subverted.
The beginning of the film is tight, even messy. What if the president has a scandal? To solve this problem, the protagonists who are part of the presidential campaign embark on their tense and eager actions.
The scene that shocked me also kicked off here. In order to reverse the situation of the president surrounded by scandals, we must find another point to attract public attention. What is this point, the protagonists began to think for themselves. "War", when the word appeared in front of my eyes, I couldn't help laughing, how is this possible? ? ! ! However, what happened next broke my mind.
Through the point of "the B3 bomber is taking off", the protagonist and his team gradually bring a virtual event into people's sight. Through the Albanian girl who ran away with the kitten, people began to pay attention to this virtual war. Next, the story reached its climax, and the carefully planned "drama" of "old shoes" and "sentimental speeches" were staged in the hands of the director one after another. Without too many annotations, it is just a simple guide. Without giving too much political information, it leads the media to walk step by step towards the set path. By crafting a more engaging media event, the protagonist and his team succeeded in diverting public attention from the presidential scandal, but it wasn't enough.
We all know that an independent event is limited in attracting public attention, and the media also has its own agenda setting. When a certain time is reached, the event will be overshadowed by another event. Our protagonist is fully aware of this, so the avatar of the heroic soldier is pulled out of the virtual event, accompanied by a heart-warming song, and the act of throwing old shoes makes the whole event no longer. It's a war movie far from people's lives, because it also involves a mother's son, and it's full of flesh and blood.
In addition, in this film, the management of various images by political public relations is also commendable. It is a coincidence to let a girl in distress hold a weak cat. It not only shows the cruelty of the enemy, but also earns enough public sympathy. This virtual war satisfies the American vanity and the so-called pursuit of freedom. . In another scene, by directing the president to put on a coat for the Albanian aunt, it added a lot to the public's impression of the president. In short, this natural and purposeful image management has removed many obstacles for the subsequent total plan.
Of course, we also need to recognize the risks in political PR. Although the purpose achieved by using free media saves costs, and at the same time erases artificial traces, making the whole event as natural as it really happened, with legitimacy and credibility, but we cannot ignore its drawbacks. . The situation spirals out of control when the protagonist learns that the true identity of the great "fighting hero" is just a prisoner, when the plane lands unexpectedly in an unfamiliar location, and when the "hero" who plays an important role is shot and killed as a rapist. I think we all know in our hearts how the story would end without that genius "screenwriter".
"Who am I", when we are caught in such a political PR, do we have such questions? When fictional facts are presented as real, can we really tell the difference between true and false?
What a "Wagtail Dog", what a successful political PR!
