There are more original expressions in the love of Heathcliiff and Cathy. The portable shooting of Lars von Trier makes the sensual colors more intense. Too many flashbacks may make the film cumbersome and artificial, but the transparent sunlight makes the love more enthusiastic. The heavy rain made the hatred more dripping, and the director abandoned more drama in order to get more realistic cruelty and originality.
The scuffle between the two teenagers in the mud smelled of breath and sweat. Perhaps, this was from another angle amplifying the thrilling and contradictory fantasy of Emily who grew up alone in the wasteland.
