vicious circle

There is such a vicious circle in modern society, and it has become more and more common in China.
At first, they are young, busy with their careers and have no time to take care of their families, and then when they retire and grow old, their children will also be unable to take care of them.
Schmidt is such a person. After completing his career mechanically, he is at a loss. He wants to care about the marriage of his children, but he can't. He wants to travel around the world, but he is also old and frail. He wants to renew his marriage, but his charm is no longer.
He suddenly found that his life was meaningless, that the career he had been fighting for all his life became someone else's overnight, and his relatives either died prematurely or were divorced. Almost overnight, it became nothing.
Is it just that a person sits on the roof of the car and slowly grows old?

"When people who know me are dying slowly, I will doubt whether I really exist in the world?" The

only thing that makes Schmidt happy is that he has made a little contribution to African children, so he has a letter reply.
Let him finally exist in people's hearts, let him finally feel that he is not Nothing.

There is such a big difference between existence and survival.
Maybe, we can think about this for decades in the morning, really, while we are young and strong, to prove it exists!

Thank goodness for not watching this movie in the impetuous early years, otherwise I can't understand its excitement. Sometimes I think, maybe Schmidt is himself, selfish, cowardly, failure, complaining, lonely. What attracts and moves people in this movie is not how turbulent the plot and how clever the jokes are, but that I see my shadow in Schmidt, an infinite shadow.

About Schmidt quotes

  • Warren Schmidt: [On top of Winnebago at night talking to his dead wife] Helen, what did you really think of me deep in your heart? Was I really the man you wanted to be with? Was I? Or were you disappointed but too nice to show it?

  • Warren Schmidt: You've got to appreciate what you have while you still have it.
