Choosing a bookstore as the place where the story takes place is very unique. What kind of jokes can be found in the bookstore? The absurd black humor and the quiet and elegant impression of the bookstore are very subversive. There are only 3 main characters in the whole play, which is also surprising. The personalities of the characters are all in place; the neurotic Bernard's big scissors, the hands that keep waving in a frenzy, the "normal" Manny's calm little book, with some childish romanticism, and the personality that always falls off the chain at critical moments, and Fran's various boyfriends and Manny complex. The 2000 drama is still relevant after 12 years as a classic British comedy.
