switchblade

I have always liked works with this theme. When such people return to society, will their past really be the past? The previous "Boy A" that I gave full marks had a tragic ending, while "Switchblade" had a more open ending.

"Switchblade" raises a satirical topic full of paradoxical meanings: Since the Bible says that murderers go to hell, does a vulnerable group like Carl go to hell after murder, as the Bible says? This seems to be a question with an obvious answer, but it actually makes people start to think about where the so-called "correctness" in society comes from.

How could Billy Bob Thornton's performance be anything but full marks? Surprised that the Oscar in 1996 actually gave the best adapted screenplay, but not Thornton's best supporting actor. The 130-minute film may be a little long, but due to Thornton's excellent performance, his re-contact with society, his year-long friendship with Frank, and the unique southern accent "All Right Then" are unforgettable. You don't feel like you get into the atmosphere of the story.

Sling Blade quotes

  • Karl: There were these two fellars standin' on a bridge, a-goin' to the bathroom. One fellar said, "The water's cold" and the other fellar said, "The water's deep". I believe one fella come from Arkansas. Get it?

  • Bill Cox: Hey, Scooter, did I tell you the one about the two ol' boys pissing off a bridge?

Scooter: I don't believe you did.

Bill Cox: Well, there were these two ol' boys and they hung their peckers off a bridge to piss. One ol' boy from California, the other from Arkansas. The ol' boy from California says, "Boy, this water's cold", and the ol' boy from Arkansas says, "Yeah, and it's deep too". Get it?

Scooter: [laughs] That's a good one. I do believe you told me that one before. I've heard that one a bunch.

    Bill Cox: Yep. That's classic.
