The mortician's son, Mike, lost his mother when he was young, and when he grew up, he left home to attend seminary, but he was a skeptic of God. His teacher sent him to an exorcist training class in the Vatican, where he met an older exorcist who didn't follow the usual path. But with an exorcism failure, the older exorcist was also possessed by the devil. In order to save him, Mike played the role of the exorcist. He conquered his inner doubts and drove out the demons in other people's bodies as well as his own inner demons. .
The film is adapted from the reportage "Ritual: The Exorcism of Today" by Matt Baglow. Matt Baglow is an Italian journalist. In order to write this book, he specially participated in the Vatican Holy See organization in Rome. of short-term exorcism classes. The story comes from the real exorcism experience in the real society.
Originally, I didn't want to watch this kind of movie that scare myself, but I bought it for Anthony Hopkins' sake. Before the exorcism of the demons, the whole film was cold and gloomy, coupled with the heavy and frightening sound effects, the fear in the heart became more and more prominent; after the exorcism, we saw the rare sunshine.
The film as a whole is more like a religious propaganda film. The only bright spot is the performance of the 70-year-old Anthony Hopkins. The movements, lines and eyes completely continue the style of the year. As for the other parts - the plot, rhythm, and other actors are completely covered under the light of the old drama bones, there is nothing outstanding.

The Rite quotes

  • Angeline: So you're having a final fling with atheism?

Michael Kovak: Well, I guess it's more like an ex-girlfriend who keeps coming around.

  • Father Xavier: Tell me, Michael, do you believe in sin?

Michael Kovak: Yeah, I just don't necessarily believe the devil makes us do it.

Father Xavier: He that committeth sin is of the devil.

Michael Kovak: Then that'd be all of us, wouldn't it? And if we're all of the devil, how do we fight him?
