Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)

This film has two versions , first HDTV before, and then Bluray. I've done this kind of thing several times, and it seems that movies can't be downloaded too early.

The film tells the story of an American DJ in Vietnam. The male lead was transferred from Greece to Vietnam to work, and he is a very talented and hilarious DJ. The arrival of the male protagonist made the two officers in charge of the radio station very unhappy, and the content and style of the male protagonist's program conflicted with their ideas. Therefore, the actor was repeatedly restricted by two officers during the broadcast. In his spare time, the protagonist met a beautiful girl on the street. In order to date her, the protagonist used money to become an English teacher for the girl and other classmates. The girl's brother did not agree with the male protagonist to associate with her, but the two gradually became friends during the contact. In this way, the male lead broadcasts twice a day and teaches English the rest of the time. One day, there was a terrorist attack in a restaurant where the hero often went to. He was called away by the girl's brother in time and survived. The actor disobeyed the order to broadcast the news during the broadcast, which resulted in his suspension. During the suspension time, the girls accepted the male lead, but because of different cultures they could only be friends, and the male lead had to agree. The male protagonist's boss hosted the show instead of him, but it was very unpopular, and the top leader had to agree to let the male protagonist return to work. The male protagonist hesitated, until he saw the audience who really loved him, the male protagonist came back to broadcast. In order to take revenge on the male protagonist, one of the male protagonist's bosses deliberately let the male protagonist drive through the Viet Cong-controlled area, causing the car of the male protagonist and his followers to be blown up. When the male protagonist was in danger, the girl's brother arrived in time to save them. Later, the male protagonist learns from his boss that the girl's brother is actually the Viet Cong. The hero was fired from the military for making friends with the Viet Cong and sent back to the United States. The male protagonist was very angry, and after finding the girl's brother, the two had a big fight. Finally, the male protagonist bid farewell to everyone one by one and left Vietnam.

According to online information, the film was written by a radio host based on his personal experience in Vietnam. Even so, the story of the movie seems to be quite crap, and the authenticity is very low. The various events, details and characters that appear in the film do not seem to have really happened, but rather look like Vietnam in the eyes of Americans. Therefore, I was very uncomfortable in the process of watching this film, except for the feeling of "ridiculous" and "ridiculous", there is nothing else.

The absurdity of the film is spread throughout the film. First, the male protagonist is chasing girls on the street, which just doesn't seem realistic. Although it is normal for men to like girls, it is not so much to chase them on a bicycle on the street. Second, the age difference between the male protagonist and the girl is very large, and the male protagonist is old enough to be her father. With such an age gap, girls still have a good impression of the male protagonist? Will the protagonist still like her? Are these two sick? Does the hero have any shame? Third, the English class teacher can change if they want, and the students have no opinion yet, this school is too casual! Is the school open for the male protagonist? Fourth, what the male protagonist teaches in English class is completely American culture, which is not realistic at all. Vietnamese should learn some useful English instead of swearing and fighting words. Fifth, the girl's family is too friendly to the male protagonist, which is not realistic at all. Which country would be polite to a person from their home country fighting a war? Sixth, the trap set by the male protagonist's boss is very ridiculous. There is still such a person in the army? Moreover, there is actually a phone on his desk that was monitored by the Viet Cong, which is amazing! The above are completely unrealistic settings in the movie, which make the movie look quite crap. For everyone, we all want to see a movie with a normal plot, but this one is not normal, it leaves me speechless! Even Vietnam in the eyes of Americans cannot describe the Vietnamese as a group with American character! In short, the more you watch the movie, the more bullshit it becomes, the more depressing you become!

Aside from the above shortcomings, the movie is basically useless, and even the selection of multiple songs in the film can't reverse the fact that the movie is a bad movie. Moreover, the songs used in this film are all in the style of the 1950s and 1960s in the United States, which are too far away from our era to feel their charm. Also, the filming of the film was simple, even with some Vietnamese scenery. Of course, this film is definitely not shot in Vietnam, probably in a country in Southeast Asia.

Finally, let's talk about the theme of the movie. The intention of the director of this film is very simple. It is to express the life of the US military in Vietnam in a comedy way, giving people a new feeling. However, the film failed. Because the movie only shows two things, on the one hand, a middle-aged man talking nonsense in the radio studio, on the other hand, a middle-aged man picking up girls on the street, is this the life of the US military in Vietnam? You can see how the film failed. In addition, the small characters in the film and the setting of the Viet Cong cannot express the real situation of Vietnam. In short, this film is a terrible mess, both in terms of form and theme!

The most outstanding part of the film is the performance of the actor Robin Williams. Robin Williams is still very young in this film, with a face that is not too wrinkled. He perfectly interprets an optimistic and humorous middle-aged man. Especially his one-man show in the broadcasting studio, this performance shows his acting skills very comprehensively, although it is a little contrived. The supporting actor Forest Whitaker is the best actor at the Oscars, and he has already shown his style in this film, especially in terms of dialogue - his words are clear and cadenced. The heroine Chitara Sukapatana is very beautiful. I thought it was Gao Yuanyuan when she first appeared, but if you look closely, you will find that she is not as beautiful as Gao Yuanyuan, but she is still a beauty. Pictures of Chitara Sukapatana are hard to find online, and it seems that she has only made this relatively famous movie. Others don't say it.

in conclusion. This film basically has no advantages, but all shortcomings, such as unreal plot and unclear theme. The only highlight of the movie is Robin Williams' somewhat contrived performance. It's a waste of time to watch such a movie that doesn't want anything, it's unlucky!

Good Morning, Vietnam quotes

  • Edward Garlick: [to Cronauer as they arrive at Jimmy Wah's] We're here, sir... Jimmy Wah's.

[they exit the Jeep and enter]

Edward Garlick: This is the place where we like to hang out, sir.

Adrian Cronauer: Real homey... in an opium kind of way.

Edward Garlick: [as Jimmy spots them] That's Jimmy Wah. He owns the place.

Jimmy Wah: Hi! Hi! Hi! Hi!

    [to Cronauer]

Jimmy Wah: Now you say hi to me then you smile!

[both smile and say hi weakly]

Jimmy Wah: And you two Earl want a couple beer?

Edward Garlick: We'd love a couple beers, Jimmy.

[Jimmy waves them to a table]

Adrian Cronauer: Why are our names Earl?

Edward Garlick: He calls everybody Earl.

Adrian Cronauer: [they sit down] Is it me, or is Jimmy light in the loafers?

Edward Garlick: Let me put it to you this way. He's got this thing for Walter Brennan. He says he wants to buy naked photographs of the actor? For three years, he's been trying.

  • Jimmy Wah: [Jimmy brings Cronauer and Garlick their beers] There your beer!

    Edward Garlick: Thank you Jimmy.

Jimmy Wah: [discreetly] Any movement on the Walter Brennan thing?

Edward Garlick: No... and it doesn't look good, Jimmy.

Jimmy Wah: He look good to me!
