Filmmaker's TV Complex

As anyone who's been here knows, I'm not a big fan of talking about the plot or themes of a movie, and sometimes that can sway your feelings so much that you lose sight of the uniqueness of the movie itself as an art form. Therefore, I prefer to observe the director’s technique or the origin of a film. As for the plot and thematic ideas, these are very opinionated and very different because of life experience or class position. I will leave it to myself or you. When you watch the movie, go and get your heart pumping, I still won't discuss it in this place.

The reason I mention this is because if this movie follows my usual generalization: it is another movie in which the event itself is bigger than the movie. I think a lot of its success comes from that.

George Clooney's father was an American TV news anchor, George Clooney's directorial debut "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" is about the famous TV host Chuck Barris's story when he was young He himself had a brief career as a journalist, which is arguably why he's been shooting TV stories. Once again, it proves that most directors' debut films are still childhood impressions, time marks, etc... I think there is a lack of bright spots in the technique, and it is very unrealistic to expect an American actor to have brilliant directorial talent. Just being able to tell the story smoothly and flatly. So watching this film is a dull experience. I watched it three times. Of course, this is also due to the Chinese subtitles that are full of mistakes and omissions. I have to say a polite word for this film. The great era of stormy seas is expressed in a deliberately calm tone.

The film chronicles a vigorous political struggle in the United States in the middle of the last century, which is an indispensable page in the history of American journalism and politics. The Columbia TV journalists fought McCarthyism to the end and pulled the ugly politician off the political stage.

The ending was so neat, it left me stunned for a moment. The jazz songs in it are pretty good. In other words, this McCarthyism is very similar to some practices during the Cultural Revolution in a certain country. .

Good Night, and Good Luck. quotes

  • Edward R. Murrow: Did you know the most trusted man in America is Milton Berle?

Fred Friendly: See? You should have worn a dress.

  • Edward R. Murrow: Let us dream to the extent of saying that on a given Sunday night the time normally occupied by Ed Sullivan is given over to a clinical survey of the state of American education, and a week or two later the time normally used by Steve Allen is devoted to a thoroughgoing study of American policy in the Middle East.
