The film that saved Katharine Hepburn's film career

Although Katherine Hepburn earned her first Best Actress Oscar nomination and win for "Morning Glory" as early as 1933, by the late 1930s she had become "box-office poison". As the BBC commented, it was this "Philadelphia Story" that saved her film career. The film earned her her third Oscar nomination, and was nominated that year for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Jimmy Stewart, win), and Best Supporting Actress.

I have seen more than 10 of Katharine Hepburn's films. As far as her roles are concerned, my favorites are "The Philadelphia Story" (1940), "The African Queen" (1951) and "Guess Who's Coming to the Dinner Party" ( 1967). This film highlights her unparalleled charm and vitality, and the image of this spoiled high-society woman in the film makes me discover Katharine Hepburn's feminine soft side for the first time.

Jimmy Stewart won the only golden statue of his life (five nominations in total) for this film.

Bottom line: This is a romantic comedy classic.

Rating: 9.5 out of 10
