After thinking about it, I still clicked "There are key plots to reveal". Although, whether there is such a thing as a plot in this movie is a question.
I was still looking forward to going to the cinema. I refrained from reading the plot synopsis and related film reviews before, but I just heard others describe it as a psychological thriller and the heroine escaped from a cult, so I imagined a tense plot - there should be some finesse, there must be finesse Well, I looked at the title and said to myself.
I must admit that the movie does a pretty good job of switching between Martha's past and present. I really like this instant, no trace of transformation, very neat and comfortable.
Therefore, when the movie first started, I was still full of expectations, looking forward to the subsequent episodes.
But in the end it was just over.
I don't think the movie has to have many ups and downs. Many times, as long as the characters are compelling enough, it's satisfying to just watch their interactions. But I think that if the movie is only supported by the characters, the characters themselves must change in the end. Otherwise, if the characters in the plot don't change much, why would I go to the movies and directly care about the gossip of the people around me? .
A movie should be close to life—meaning it must show a certain humanity, but it cannot be an exact replica of life. I think so anyway.
"Martha Marcy May Marlene" can not be said to be flat. After all, it was the girl who entered the cult by mistake, was raped, and witnessed the murder. But the whole movie tells it all in a trance-like tone, deliberately smoothing out the climax. Narrative is not its purpose, it just wants to express a feeling of alienation and dazedness. At the end of the day, you have absolutely no idea of Martha's past or future, she's just an ethereal being floating around in this movie.
