Portman's heroine, Emilia, is a Harvard law graduate who comes to work at the firm of Jack, a New York ace, played by Scott Cohen. Emily quickly fell in love with the married boss, and the two eventually formed a family. Unfortunately, after the tragic loss of their newborn daughter, their relationship was at an impasse. Not only does Emily grapple with the loss of her daughter, but she also struggles to reconcile her relationship with her stepson, William. The saddest thing is that she finds out that her worst enemy is Carolyn, Jack's angry and jealous ex-wife, played by Lisa Kudrow.
