This movie is so puzzling to me, like the strange name of Apichatpong Weerasethakul. Probably because Apichatpong Weerasethakul is making films for himself, and he prefers to use private experiences and private methods, both in content and form. From another angle, it should be out of love for the movie and trust in the audience. A director is willing to shoot his own experience and experience in a method of his own choice and throw it in front of the audience without explaining it. This approach is very close to my understanding of the film, which is why I attach great importance to this. One reason for the movie (of course this is just my wishful thinking.).
In addition to being incomprehensible, the second impression is that the picture is good-looking, and it is good-looking from the beginning. This is just my personal preference for dark night scenes, and this is indeed the first time I have seen such a dark forest. Those panoramic shots only have very low light sources, but they don't seem to have any noise, and the whole picture is dark. green, I really can't think of any other movie that has made this good-looking picture. The few shots at the dining table seem to have no external light source at all, only the chandeliers, flashlights, etc. in the lens, which are also very beautiful and very real, just like a sudden power outage at home.
Regarding past lives, dreams, slaughter, buffaloes, catfish, etc., I think everyone has more or less personal experiences or experiences that are inhumane to outsiders. In fact, more is not unwilling to explain, but unable to explain. The more you explain, the further away you are from the event itself, so you stop halfway through. Perhaps the genius of Apichatpong Weerasethakul was to state the events without explaining them. The movie we see is like some kind of event we are experiencing, it has no beginning and no end, it is fleeting, like suddenly meeting someone on the street, or going to a river in a dream, maybe remembered or forgotten , but it has more or less effects on us.
I have talked about this movie to my friends several times, but when I want to introduce it, I always don’t know where to start. In the end, I have to say: “There is a story, the pictures are good, and maybe you can see some new possibilities for movies of this era.”
