find yourself

Looking back on this film after a few years
is still very, very moving

. When they were young, they fought on the battlefield and traveled around the world . When
they got old, they guarded huge sums of money and lived in seclusion in the manor

. In their life, there was a little boy, a group of dogs, a Pigs, a house, a piece of land,
and unwillingness to accept old age.
They shot at salesmen and drove away "relatives."
They bought all kinds of vegetable seeds, only to find out that they were all corn
. They had a small pond, but bought one
They buy flying saucers, second-hand lions from zoos, decommissioned planes from World War II...

When young people think of them, they
always praise them with envy.
At the last moment of their lives, they lived like real lions

.” Everything belongs to the boy who buried us in a broken garden next to that stupid lion"

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most.
That people are basically good;
that honor, courage, and virtue mean everything;
that power and money, money and power mean nothing;
that good always triumphs over evil;
and I want you to remember this,
that love... true love never dies.
You remember that, boy. You remember that.
Doesn't matter if it's true or not.
You see, a man should believe in those things,
because those are the things worth believing in.

    I quite like these kinds of films, where irresponsible mothers abandon their children to relatives, and dumb relatives bring up children. Following such a main line, the mother's unreliability is enriched and ridiculous, and the good relatives are more legendary and wonderful, and the story becomes richer. Very loving.

    A clichéd fairy tale; but pretty well done, especially the "second-hand lion" metaphor - even old age doesn't deprive a lion of its dignity.

  • Hub: [to Stan] You're lucky the lion got to you before *we* did.

  • [last lines]

    Sheik's Great Grandson: So, these two men from your grandfather's stories, they really lived?

    Adult Walter: [wistfully] Yeah, they really lived...
