The influence of politics, religion, and human nature and the contradictions between them are indeed covered in many films, but it is not possible for ordinary films to achieve a harmonious structure of the three. I don’t know much about Western religions, so I can only be partially impacted, but the film’s concern for human nature, neutral angle, and the artistry of the film itself will not fade over time.
In particular, it is admirable that the two actors tend to perform to perfection, and of course the difficulties of the conceivable shooting environment.
Finally feel in the film Ennio Morricone's long-awaited soundtrack, definitely one of his most perfect.
It is a pity that Roland Joffé has not surpassed even the work of this film level in the next 20 years.
