The fine line between persistence and stubbornness

When she encounters unspeakable insults at work, when friends stay away from her, when children "hate" her, and when her father and co-workers look down on her, perhaps, she should endure it silently and find someone to marry based on her pretty face. Live silently.

And she chose to insist on what she thought was right. In the end, her friend testified for her, the child returned to her, her father chose to stand by his daughter in the labor union that thousands of people cast aside her, and the factory gave her corresponding compensation.

In the process of perseverance, the cost is too high. If she fails, everyone will laugh at her stubbornness. So many people compromise on their sophisticated insurance choices. There is only a fine line between persistence and stubbornness. But I think the first person to eat crabs is always admirable.

Charlize Theron starred in this film, and my impression of her was extra points. I was very impressed by her performance in "The Clouds of Paris".

The true story itself is very impactful, but a lot of interspersed short stories are superfluous

North Country quotes

  • Hank Aimes: My name is Hank Aimes and I've been a miner all my life. And I've never been ashamed of it until now. You know when we take our wives and daughters to the company barbecue, I don't hear any of them calling them those names like bitches and whores and worse. I don't see anyone grab them by their privates or drawing pictures of them on the bathroom walls, it's unspeakable. Unspeakable! So what's changed? She's still my daughter! It's a heck of a thing, to watch one of your own get treated that way. You're all supposed to be my friends, my brothers. Well, right now I don't have a friend in this room. In fact the only one I'm not ashamed of is my daughter.

Josey Aimes: [testifying] Lady, you sit in your nice house, clean floors, your bottled water, your flowers on Valentine's Day, and you think you're tough? Wear my shoes. Tell me tough. Work a day in the pit, tell me tough.

Lawyer: I'm sure we're all sufficiently impressed, Mrs. Aimes.

Josey Aimes: There's no "Mrs." here.
