Obscene violence and powerlessness between reality

After watching this film, there is a violent feeling of playing a fighting game alone. A different world, a saint, a reason to kill monsters, a fierce battle from beginning to end. This kind of plot is like the apocalyptic American version of South Korea's "Uncle", which only weakens the feelings and strengthens the art.

If the fighting plot to save the daughter is excluded, this film is an anti-totalitarian film. American filmmakers' portrayal of totalitarianism and their dislike of totalitarianism seem to be deeply rooted in the bone marrow. Even in such an action-oriented film, some totalitarian factors must be added. When the violence is over, I suddenly feel that totalitarianism is still there. If a good dream comes true, people have to return to reality and continue to live humbly under the rule of totalitarianism. A hero is given in the movie, which is a typical American way of handling: a single-handed loner, and saving the world is not alone.

In fact, this film is the same for Americans, and totalitarianism has moved away from them, although they are constantly vigilant about the resurgence of totalitarianism. But for people living in a totalitarian society, the meaning of the film goes far beyond that. It is an impossible dream for a person to fight against power, so the violent rush in the movie has become the only consolation in people's predicament in the predicament. Only in this movie will people see that they can still be heroes, not so servile, and can fight vampires and totalitarian religious organizations on the left.

Every kind of totalitarianism firmly controls people's spiritual and social life in the form of religious or quasi-religious organizations, turning people into animal-like brains. In such a society, rulers can act recklessly and hold power and money without fear of being threatened. The saint is a threat. Although he did not attack the church blatantly, he still used the method of lifting the head of a vampire to announce his existence to the church. Such radical behavior cannot be done by ordinary people, nor can ordinary people dare to do it.

If in reality, we don’t need to think too much to know how tragic the consequences of the saint’s reckless behavior are, but in the myth of the hero, he must live, and eventually disintegrate the totalitarianism of the church and destroy the human race. The mind is freed. This is people's thirst for hope, and it is the only fantasy that can be retained in the helpless reality.

The humble long for the arrival of the savior, and the savior is likely to be the object of sacrifice of the humble. When success is in sight, the humble will respond, and when the savior faces death, the humble will not hesitate to step on it to protect their own lives. This is the powerlessness of reality.

The more success in the film, the more hormones brought by violence, the more it reflects the helplessness of reality, and the more it shows the tragic suppression of human nature under totalitarianism.

Priest quotes

  • Hicks: [Priest is carving crosses into bullets] What's with all the bullets? I thought priests didn't use firearms.

Priest: We don't. They're for you.

  • Black Hat: The church teaches us that the eyes are the windows to the soul. And that since vampire evolved without eyes, it is a soulless creature, to be eradicated. And I have seen the soul of the vampire, and let me tell you that it is far more pure than that of any man. Now you ask me what I am. I am the bringer of the tide. I am the wave that will wash clean this unclean world. And you, and your Priest, will help me do it.
