Extremely personal image style

Obviously, Eisenstein's obsession with black and white light and shadow has almost reached the point of madness, and he perfectly integrates this infinitely charming image style into the "character analysis" of the protagonist (Ivan the Great).
The Ivan the Great in the film is the "Savior"? (Interestingly, the image of Ivan the Great in the movie itself resembles "God"). Or a tyrant?
Or was director Eisenstein expressing his opinion of Stalin here? (both a tyrant and a savior). I have to say, I prefer this third opinion.
Finally, by the way, Stalin seemed to like his image in this film so much that Eisenstein made the second episode of Ivan the Great. (laugh)
