In the last paragraph, on the train, the little girl who was drawing lost her short pencil. The magician has an identical, longer pencil in his hand. In fact, he can conjure something better and make the little girl happy as before. But the old magician finally understood that desire cannot be filled, and to keep satisfying that desire will only make people less cherished. So he chose to conjure up the little girl's original pencil.
Father's love is boundless, but we must also know how to cherish it.
