Reprint - the way back

A Russian tough guy, a Polish teenager, and an old American man escaped from the famous Gulag concentration camp in the former Soviet Union, traveled all the way through Central Asia, over the Himalayas, and fled to India. Such a true story is a good subject for any director, especially a director like Peter Weir who likes to focus on the release of individual spirit and independent will. "The Way Back" uses real "escape" to explore the topic of breaking free from the system and advocating freedom. A good theme and a good director will make you feel sorry for yourself if you don't bid for the Olympics.

The Way Back quotes

  • Mr. Smith: In the camps, some saw death as freedom.

    Janusz: Punishment for what?

Mr. Smith: I brought David to Russia.

Janusz: And now no one can forgive you. And you can't forgive yourself...
