Les diaboliques (1955)
Continue to watch the IMDB250 series and see this film . I didn't know everything about this movie until I saw it. After hearing the dialogue and watching the scene, I realized that this is a French movie.
The movie tells a perfect murder case. There are three strange people in a school. The principal has a wife and a mistress, and the man is like a demon, and he often abuses the two women. Strangely, the two women are not hostile because of the man, but are a pair of good friends. Unable to bear the abuse of the man, the two women plan to murder the man. All went according to plan and they killed the man and dumped the body in the swimming pool on campus. A few days later, the body still did not come to the surface. After a search, the body disappeared. Strange things followed. The clothes the man wore when he was killed were brought back by the dry cleaners, the wife found the hotel room that the husband had opened privately, and the students found the principal on campus. The panicked wife went to the mortuary to find the body, but was entangled by a retired policeman who was very eager to help her find a man. A wife with a heart disease can't stand the condemnation of her conscience, let alone the torture of strange things, and her health is getting worse and worse. One night, she was frightened to death when she saw her dead husband come back to life in the school bathroom. At this time, we discovered that the man was not dead at all, and the mistress also appeared at this time. It turned out that all this was a wife-killing operation planned by the man and his mistress. While they were having fun, it was all discovered by retired police officers and the man and woman were also jailed for murder.
The story of the movie is wonderful and very unexpected. Twenty minutes before the end of the film, I guessed the ins and outs of the film. In the progress of the story, it is impossible to think that the man is the mastermind. According to my speculation, these two women may be a pair of homosexuals, because Ji Jiushengqing felt that men were in the way, and they were murdered because men often abused them. I didn't expect such an ending at all. After the body disappeared, it was once believed that the mistress wanted to murder his wife, but the evidence was not obvious. I also thought about my wife trying to get rid of my mistress, or some kind of conspiracy by my colleague at school. It wasn't until my wife's health got worse and worse, and the mistress left on her own, that I suddenly realized that it was the mistress and the man who wanted to kill my wife and monopolize the school's assets. As for the disappearance of the corpse, I didn't think of ghosts or anything. Although I don't know the genre of this movie, it doesn't look like a horror movie with fantasy elements. In short, the plot of this film is perfectly set up without any flaws, and there is no gap between the mistress and the man during the viewing process. The suspense of the whole story is very good. To put it bluntly, this movie fooled the audience.
The suspense and horror atmosphere of this film is very well shaped. After the body disappears in the second half of the movie, there is an obvious horror movie atmosphere, such as dim light, empty room, etc., and the analysis of the two women also deepens the scary index of the movie. Especially when the punished child found the principal and the man's head appeared in the photo, these two scenes added to the suspenseful atmosphere of the movie. Near the end of the film, the horror atmosphere of the whole film reaches its peak, with the wife running in the dark alone, the gloved fingers tapping on the typewriter, and the most terrifying of all - the man who rolls his eyes slowly resurrects from the bathtub , these few pictures can really scare the heart patients watching the movie half to death, not to mention the characters in the movie? Also, on the way back to school after the murder, the film sets up a little trouble that makes us terrified for the two women in the film. Doing so not only adds to the tension in the film, but also unleashes smoke bombs on the audience. I was also really bewildered, I thought they would not reach their destination. In short, after watching this movie, I realized that such a good horror movie could be made in the 1950s. Besides, it is even better than some of the current horror movies. It is worthy of being a classic, and it should be selected for IMDB250. In addition, many scenes in the movie are familiar, and many later movies have borrowed from this film.
The movie is good overall, but the first half of the film is a bit slow. The dialogue of some scenes in the first hour of the movie, such as the wife's hesitation and the mistress's determination, can be completely omitted. I fell asleep watching these scenes, it was really boring. This is the common problem of old movies. The story is told step by step, and the foreshadowing part is relatively dull. Where is it like a modern movie, where the opening goes straight to the point?
The film is old and the actors are not familiar with it. The wife's actor, Véra Clouzot, performed very well. She showed the hesitant, timid, and restless emotions of the character. The movie will be good with her convincing performance. Another heroine, Simone Signoret, is a famous French movie star, but she gave me a general feeling in this film. She gave me a "resolute" image, not hesitating in doing anything, killing people, draining swimming pools, and so on. Probably the role limits her play. The male protagonist Paul Meurisse has a public face, and he always feels that he has seen him somewhere, and it is in recent film and television works. Other rambunctious, not to mention worth mentioning.
In addition, there were frame skipping in the darkness before the end of the movie, and several color pictures from other movies could jump out, and the sound was very, very noisy, like some screams, isn't this a whole person? Just scared me to death. Is this an Easter egg deliberately added by the oppressor? It’s scary enough already, but I’m still making some shocking pictures and sounds to add to this feeling. Thanks to my heart, it’s okay, otherwise wouldn’t it be the same as the characters in the movie?
In short, a suspenseful and horror movie that is better than Alfred Hitchcock's movie, and it is very worth watching.
