man's will

Men of Honor is a biographical film that tells the saga of Carl, America's first black deep-sea diver: Carl, a black youth from the countryside, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After all the difficulties and setbacks, Carl became an extraordinary officer with a higher rank. This is of course due to his excellent diving talent, but there is also a vital source of Karl's strength - will, extraordinary will. Carl was racially discriminated against by white soldiers in the army, and was harassed by officers during his graduation exam, but he did not give up his dream of becoming a soldier, nor did he give up his pursuit of honor. He has endured all shame; all difficulties and tortures he has endured.
The film is very successful in showing Carl's strong willpower. This aspect of course benefits from the highly infectious plot of the story. To be honest, just this story itself, a story about struggling in the face of adversity, already contains the ancient legend that the will can change the fate; it can awaken people's imagination of the beauty of the will. On the other hand, it's the details that the movie handles extremely well, and it's in those details that Karl's mighty will is on full display.
There are two clips in the movie that show this very beautifully. These two clips, one after another, during his graduation exam, persisted to the end in the icy sea water, and finally completed the task. When the water came out, it was almost frozen. Another is the clip that Carl still wants to stay in the Navy after the amputation and continue his diving mission. In this test, he put on a wetsuit weighing 290 pounds and walked the difficult 12 steps.
Explanation of the first clip:
Carl emerges from the water and, with the help of a colleague, shudders and struggles to move to a chair. Colleagues removed his helmet. CLOSE UP: Carl's black face, shivering with the cold, clings to the cold drops of water. The camera turns to Carl's eyes. Carl's eyes were extremely firm, not wilting from fatigue and cold. This look seems to be silently telling the audience the endless generosity and high-spirited words from the deepest heart. The audience felt the shock of the soul from these eyes, and the atmosphere created by the film was full of fighting spirit. From this look, the audience understands the meaning of being a man, the honor of a man, and the power of will.
The second snippet explains:
Carl, wearing a heavy diving suit, took heavy steps under the encouragement of Sergeant Cindy. "one, two". "eleven, twelve". In this clip, Carl's heavy footsteps are first reflected in the heavy sound of his diving shoes hitting the floor with each step forward. Carl's heavy footsteps responded to the call of willpower in his heart, and the sound of diving shoes hitting the floor also responded to Carl's heavy footsteps. In this scene, on the movie screen, we see Karl's hard, slow movements. However, what we see is not just Carl's actions, the art of the film has successfully created such an atmosphere - what we directly see and feel is also Carl's inner world, Carl's will, honor and dream .
To tell the truth, this film deserves to be an outstanding work with only these two extremely infectious situations. The success of the film lies in the will of Karl - a man - to the fullest. The audience is extremely easily infected by this kind of situation, at least I was deeply shocked.
