The decision to leave the death penalty has recently been raging in China. Where to go, there are different opinions. In particular, the occurrence of several sensitive incidents has attracted people's attention, such as the one named Yao Jiaxin, and the father of a buddy named Li Gang. The death penalty, from the past to the present, has become an unsolved problem.
Reminds me of the classic debate of Socrates exchanging 30 yuan for his life. Of course, this paragraph is fully reflected in the film. A group that opposes the death penalty, a group that can give up everything for its ideals, deserves respect, but it is also scary.
Kevin was a high-class man, a philosopher, and a leader of a group against the death penalty. Winslet was a journalist who kept secrets regardless of the external circumstances. It seems that these two people will not have any connection, but Kevin saw Winslet at the end of his life, and also saw the greatest significance of his death.
First of all, I won't spoil the spoiler, if you want to know the ending, go see it yourself. The best part of the film is in the last 30 minutes, but the story behind it wouldn't have surprised me as much without the first 90 minutes. I have to be honest, by the last hour it became clear to me that Constance committed suicide. But the more certain I was about my guesses, the more proud of my personal abilities, the more I ignored what the film was really trying to reflect. Really, I've forgotten that Kevin is the leader of a group that opposes the death penalty.
Winslet is an outsider to this story, but also a witness to it. Apart from the original three masterminds of this story, she is the only one who knows the truth. Why did Kevin choose her, because Winslet could ask to keep a secret and go to jail. So, Kevin was sure she would keep the secret.
The initial idea for the plot originated in a debate — a televised debate between Kevin and the governor of Texas. Kevin is a professor of philosophy and a ruthless character who has been concerned about the death penalty for a long time. And the governor of Texas is a politician, a guy who only cares about votes. So, the real debate has been won and lost from the very beginning. However, Kevin's character is impatient, and his almost hysterical and frantic questioning finally gave the governor a chance to breathe. A question from the governor stumped Kevin. "Can you find a case of a wrongful death?" Yes, the death penalty has already been sentenced, and the criminal has been brought to justice. The governor's words are tantamount to dead and unwarranted. But don't forget, Kevin is a philosophy professor and an eloquent. So he will find a case. The case is what we see in the film.
We don't care if Constance is terminally ill, whether Kevin is ruined by the allure of a beautiful student, we don't care how crazy that cowboy really is. We only focus on ideals. That's right, it's an ideal, a simple word, a hard life.
Whose life? Is it the death row criminals? Is it Constance's? Is it the governor of Texas? Which cowboy is it? Is it Winslet's? Or the famous lawyer of Kevin's? I don't know, all I know is that the movie is called "The Life of David Gore."
Ideal, at the last moment, confirmed to reality. I'm so proud of Kevin and equally saddened by his death. Maybe you can cite thousands of reasons why he didn't deserve to die, so what? All I can say is, that's your choice, not Kevin, not David.
Winslet, the last tears, may no longer be self-blame, guilt, or regret, and more likely to be happiness. No matter whether she supports the existence of the death penalty or not, the occurrence of such a thing, the existence of such a case, is vividly displayed in front of her eyes, and only she knows what happened, she should remember something.
Kevin's death is something to be proud of. Kevin's debate is worth remembering. Kevin's ideal is admirable. I thought of myself. Maybe graduated, maybe unemployed, maybe can't see the future, or can't see the future clearly, but the ideal should still be there. No matter how hard, how tiring, how painful, look at Kevin's death. I think there should be a lot of people who don't understand him, just as there are a lot of people who don't understand 1900 in "The Pianist at Sea". However, after all, you are not him, so you can never be him. Some successes cannot be copied, and some classics cannot be surpassed. However, some ideals are really achievable, as long as you persist, as long as you work hard. Let's share! !
