In the continuous green valleys, when spring comes, flowers bloom all over the mountains and fields, birds and branches sing, but people who rely on the mountains to eat may not always come to live with a smile.
This is an old movie shot in 1941, black and white, sadness is the keynote of the movie, but it doesn't feel depressed and sad because of it.
Miners' hands are often stained with coal stains, some of which cannot be removed even after brushing with soapy water many times. There are joys and beliefs as well.
There used to be beef and mutton on the table every night and one had to pray before eating.
Once, my father would distribute pocket money from the box every day, and the youngest would go to the canteen to buy his favorite lollipop. That was his greatest joy.
In a cold winter, he fell into the ice water and could not walk on his legs. It was his godfather who took him to the valley to see the daffodils blooming in the spring. Then he finally continued to stand, walk and run.
Being bullied at school, his father told Hugh that he must learn to fight back. Fighting back is what a man must do.
When his father asked about Hugh's ideals, he just wanted to be a miner. Although his father was disappointed, he still respected his choice. "You have to be responsible for the decisions you make yourself."
Seeing the sister-in-law who lost her husband leaning against the door frame, she said, "But, I'm so lonely." He also felt pain in his heart.
"No matter what life is, they all want to love, they all try to be honest, and they're all so brave."
They try to stitch them together despite life being torn apart over and over again.
Thanks to director Henry Ford for making such a delicate and beautiful film, Hugh’s narration, and the interspersed singing voices; concise and never procrastinating, there is always a forbearance tone, careful not to overflow when sad, this kind of poetry This kind of narrative style has a kind of power of compassion that surpasses life, which is why I always have a feeling that I want to cry but can't cry.
At the end of the film, the camera switches to the previous scene: a family dinner, a hillside full of lilies, my sister smiling and waving, my father and Hugh walking in the green mountains and valleys... Time is like water, and everything in the past will never come back.
However, what is the difference between the current valley and the past? It seems that after all the strong winds and waves, it has finally returned to calm, the lilies on the mountain are still in full bloom, and the birds and flowers are fragrant. In this way, this is a beautiful journey in life, sad but beautiful, or still beautiful.
While watching the movie, I felt familiar with my sister and the missionary. Later, I finally remembered that there is a similar love in "Birds of Thorns", the love between Ralph and Meggie; and the existence of the mine disaster reminded me of "Alive" in China.
The church bells, the father reading the Bible before his son's every trip, praying... also gave me peace of mind.
And just two hours before the end of the movie, Alen, who was emotionally troubled, gave me breakfast and saw "HOLY BIBLE" by my bed. She asked me what book it was, and I couldn't generalize to her. , but just open the third chapter of Ecclesiastes 3:18 and ask her to read it aloud.
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time
to kill, and a time to heal; a time
to tear down, and a time to build; a time
to cry, and a time to laugh; a time
to mourn, and a time to dance; a time
to throw stones, and a time to pile up stones;
A time to embrace, a time to not embrace; a time
to seek, a time to lose;
a time to keep, a time to forsake; a time
to tear and a time to mend; a time to be
silent and a time to speak; a
time to love and a time to hate; a time
to fight and a time to reconcile.
...
Instead of tangled, let each of us enjoy the time of this series of life and live well.
The green hills are still there, and the beauty will come.
