In the movie, Peter, the Jew, was not only affected by the war of that era, but also when his parents ignored his love for music when he was a child, his beloved violin was smashed by his father in front of him, and he lost the chance to become famous. His son, David, has a talent for piano playing since he was a child. As a father, he was his teacher and devoted all his efforts to his son, placing high hopes on his son's musical career. But what he took to David was a suffocating education. Only success can be appreciated, otherwise he will beat and scold him. Peter's original intention was to hope that his son could win the show, but it became a painful shackle on David.
Although David is the protagonist in the film, it is his father who makes me feel more. Because an education method like Peter's will be despised in the West, and in China, especially when I was a student, it may not be blamed. Because of the intuitive requirements for grades and the pursuit of results, the education of children is mostly simple and rude. Similar to children being beaten, they are also known as "filial sons from sticks".
Like Peter, who collapsed his faith in
the play, he passed on the achievements he failed to achieve to his son, hoping that his son would become a dragon and eager for quick success, and even hurt his son mentally and physically. In the end, David was able to become a pianist because of the help of so many enthusiastic people, otherwise his whole life would have been ruined at the hands of his father.
Parents do not have any right to decide their children's future and impose their own will on their children by virtue of their love for their children and their responsibilities to the family. Because children have their own lives as individuals, they do not come into the world just to fulfill the wishes of their parents. However, the Chinese culture of "filial piety" requires children to have enough respect for their parents and to repay the kindness of education given by their parents. But respect is not the same as obedience, not simply signing a check to pay. Now, both in the family and in the workplace, more emphasis is placed on the communication between people, so that after people with different ideas communicate with each other, they can interact with each other, and only then can friendship and understanding be enhanced. But it's really painful to have an authoritarian and rough parent like Peter in the movie. Moreover, the shackles received in childhood will have varying degrees of impact on life in adulthood, so a positive life requires a strong character and good friends, which are more important wealth than money and rights.
No matter whether you have ever been smashed by a violin, or have been hurt on the road of life, you must never be a father who smashes a child's life like Peter. The hurt should not be continued, love and help are the transmission of warmth to the family. Let children have a free heart, grow up happily, and choose their own life.
