Anyway, I have always appreciated this kind of petty, warm little movie. Knowing that he may die soon is not bad news for Ben, but closer to relief. There are always some ties in life that make people unable to let go and do what they want to do, but because of cancer, Ben gave himself a reason to get on a motorcycle and enjoy himself. You might think he walked away like this, letting his health be a retreat from his illness, but he told Sam that he didn't want to go home because he wasn't ready to be a patient. Freedom, someone has spent their entire lives never chasing after it.
