I already knew the synopsis of this film, but I never had the chance to watch it properly. I finally got a taste of my long-cherished wish today. It can be said that this is the best movie I have ever seen after "Love and Elixir".
I'm not an interesting person, and I personally feel that the ending of the story is a bit silly, but it must be said to be the finishing touch. In fact, when the movie was going on, I believe that all the audience felt like me that this was just a nonsense story. Those adventures and gold coins in the desert were as off-line as the protagonist's outlook on life. It was obviously a pastime for the elderly in their later years. . Young people like to listen to stories, so there is always someone willing to make up.
But such a plot doesn't spoil the message the director wants to tell us.
Some people say: people live a lifetime, isn't it just a little thing! But in life, people are always looking for and constantly needing to have some meaning, some different things supporting some people and some souls. That's far more fascinating than physical pleasure, money, and power.
is love? belong? Or is it just that person who can give you all the feeling you need?
These questions, the director told us more or less in this movie.
When a person is old, he may enjoy his old age in peace, with children and grandchildren around his knees, and family happiness. But is this life? The spark of life will not fade away. Those old boys, they are still longing for a man day by day, also longing to burn their blood again, longing for freedom and adventure. The dreams that only young people can dream, they are not willing to wake up.
Uncle Huh walks to the lake every night, and what he is looking for is not necessarily the lover of his youth, nor his younger self. He knew that he was old, but he still didn't want to believe that his life was only left with this old body.
Young people are eager to take risks because they know they will not die easily, while old people are not afraid of taking risks because they are not needed.
It has been said that to be loved is to be needed.
The happiness of love comes from a knowledge that you are needed, you are not lonely, you are not alone.
When Walter came into their lives, they just accepted the child. He may be sensitive or awkward, but this distressingly stubborn soul moved these two old boys.
There is a kind of person who longs for his own life like the second-hand lion they bought and ends up dying in battle. Instead of dying of old age, even if it doesn't work out.
In the end, these two old men in their 90s, driving a plane from World War I, crashed into the door of their own barn, but welcomed witnesses to their legendary life.
There was no blood in the final shot, and they left without causing much pain to the audience. There may be a relieved smile, but the deep emotion and thinking about life and life are the messages the director hopes to bring to the audience.
Maybe when we can live to the age of looking back on our lives, we don't have many legends for others to tell, and there are not many memorable fragments, and it is more likely that we are too old to forget most of our memories. But what we experienced at that time will always remind us, because those memories are alive, and they made me who I am now. And whether I can feel happy is not because of the legends of the past years, but whether I can allow myself to enter the current life.
Uncle Huh always went around in his youthful years, even if he had to pick up a hoe to farm during the day, at night he would still remember the past in his sleep.
Why is it so painful?
Because life has to go on.
When the shape of life, like our body, begins to change slowly, people need to find a new meaning of life. When we are young we have our own battlefield, and when we are old, when we have more time but gradually lose our joy and vitality, we need a home.
Even if it's just to pass the unbearably hot summer time, even if it's just to make oneself feel needed again, this is redemption.
