The plot is not the point, the emotion is

When I was very young, I read the bookworm version of A Christmas Carol, a very thin green booklet, which I read many times in both Chinese and English. Dickens is a master, and the three elves can bring people so many insights. Instead of nine songs and eighteen episodes in the plot, more energy is placed on the beautiful portrayal of human nature. It's really not modern at all.
So hear someone comment that it's boring? Come on! Why does the story have to be as long and mutated as an American drama, and the characters have to be both good and bad in order to be profound? It's absurd! Faith itself is extreme and pure, and it is because of this that faith guides our existence. The play itself is like a Christmas carol, the worship of good is at least better than the digging of evil. It's not the cognition of ugliness that moves the world forward, the real power comes from the worship of goodness. Believing in goodness and truth, believing that human kindness cannot be concealed or replaced under any system, is the inner driving force for mankind to move towards civilization.

  • Fred: A Merry Christmas to you, uncle!

Ebenezer Scrooge: Bah! Humbug... What reason have you to be merry? You're poor enough.

Fred: What reason have you to be so dismal? You're rich enough.

    Ebenezer Scrooge: BAH! Humbug!
