A world of the jungle

The young protagonist is like living in a world where the strong eat the weak. In the end, only through his own ferocity and strength can he protect himself and achieve his goal. Just like what the police said to the teenager in the film, "You think you are strong because someone is protecting you behind you, but they are getting old... (to the point)", and the teenager finally found out that the police are not a guarantee of safety. Or solve the threat through his own wisdom and ferocity.

The film is narrated in a cold and flat way, tepid and slow, not like a crime-themed film, but a literary film. However, the portrayal of the characters is indeed quite delicate. The perverted and bloodthirsty "pope", the hidden mother, the timid brother-in-law and the experienced protagonist are all impressive. The first half of the film is a bit boring, but the second half of the plot moves quickly and is also very interesting.

Animal Kingdom quotes

  • Barry Brown: Hey, so Nicole's a sweetie. Where'd ya find her?

Joshua 'J' Cody: [as J. leaves urinal] Found her at school.

Barry Brown: Where are you going?

    Joshua 'J' Cody: What?

Barry Brown: Did you wash your hands?

    Joshua 'J' Cody: No.

Barry Brown: You had your hands on your cock. Your hands go anywhere near your ass or your cock, you wash 'em after. Jesus, c'mon. Bit of soap, get a lather going. Rinse. Alright that's enough, now stick 'em under there.

    [Gesturing towards hand dryer]

Joshua 'J' Cody: I'm invisible, these things never see me.

Barry Brown: No one's invisible, mate.

  • Andrew 'Pope' Cody: [after the funeral of Baz, Darren is at the sink fixing himself a drink when Pope enters] Where'd you get that suit? What's that suit?

    Darren Cody: It's a suit.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What do you think, it looks good on you?

    Darren Cody: What?

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: Looks gay. You gay?

Darren Cody: Fuck off, will you?

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: It's a serious question. I don't care if you're gay or if you're not gay, you know? It's alright if you are, mate. I just want you to tell me about it, you know? I don't care whether you're gay or you're not gay. I just want you to talk to me about it, you know? You making yourself a drink?

    Darren Cody: Yep.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What is it?

Darren Cody: It's a bourbon and Coke.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: Bourbon and Coke's not a very gay drink, mate. I think, look, if you're a gay man, if you are, and you wanna make yourself a gay drink, just go ahead and make yourself a gay drink, you know what I mean? That's what I'm talking about, mate. I just want you to tell me things. You know, it kills me to see you living a lie.

Darren Cody: Look, will you fuck off? Seriously.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What do you think we should do?

Darren Cody: I think we should be there for Cath and the family and that.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: What are you gonna do, Darren?

Darren Cody: It's wrong and all that, but, you know.

Andrew 'Pope' Cody: You know, if Baz was still here right now and we'd just been to your funeral, we wouldn't be having this conversation 'cause he'd have already done something about it. If you don't want to do anything because you're scared. Is it because you're scared? It's alright if you are. I just want you to tell me about it. Just talk to me.
