"French Drug Network": US police solve case

The "French Drug Network" series that has been on the hard drive for several years, I always don't want to watch it. Because it's a movie from the 1970s, I'm afraid it doesn't suit my taste. But online comments said it was a good film, and today I finally gathered up my courage and finished watching it.

Definitely 70's style. Typical "criminal case". The story is simple, the police catch the bad guys. According to the usual routine, there is no policeman who is not brave, and there is no villain who is not cunning. Justice will always defeat evil.

The story is very clichéd, straightforward, and unremarkable. From the discovery of drug dealers, to tracking and searching for clues, in the end, all the stolen goods were recovered. The structure of the story can't be more typical. It's very similar to the domestic crime-solving film I watched when I was a child, and it made me feel so powerless.

Although the plot is cliché, it is called a classic film, and there must be something special about it. The film's camera style and use of lenses are the highlights.

There is very little dialogue in the whole film, and most of the action scenes are basically based on tracking and chasing. There are a lot of moving shots, in the style of "The Bourne", shot with a camcorder, very dynamic. It doesn't look like a seventies movie at all. The shooting style of the film is also unique for the seventies. The camera is sharp and the picture is strong, especially the subway chase scene, it is very exciting to watch, and it makes me feel refreshed when I want to sleep. This film has become a classic because of the above two factors.

From my personal perception, compared to the "Godfather" series I just watched two days ago, they are contemporary movies. I prefer to watch The French Drug Network, it looks better, less dull, and has a simple story. "The Godfather" is too long and complicated, and there are certainly not many people who have the patience to watch it with its terrible length. Even Francisco Pola said in the guide review of the "The Godfather" series that he also likes "The French Drug Network", which looks better than "The Godfather".

I am familiar with Gene Hackman, one of the leading actors in the film. I used to watch his films, but he was an older man. The first time I watched a younger man, I was surprised. It turned out to be a handsome guy. After all, everyone is young.

The other characters are not familiar at all. The director didn't understand either. It seems that although this film is a classic, but not many people have seen it. I watched the movie really "niche".

Looking at the subtitles at the end of the film, the big villain was not caught, and it is obvious that there is a sequel. Well, then watch the sequel.

  • Jimmy 'Popeye' Doyle: All right! You put a shiv in my partner. You know what that means? Goddammit! All winter long I got to listen to him gripe about his bowling scores. Now I'm gonna bust your ass for those three bags and I'm gonna nail you for picking your feet in Poughkeepsie.

    [a few scenes later:]

Walt Simonson: Popeye. You still picking your feet in Poughkeepsie?

  • Jimmy 'Popeye' Doyle: All right, Popeye's here! Get your hands on your heads, get off the bar, and get on the wall!
