I actually want to think this drama is outdated. But in the age of the moral Taliban, a story about censorship, a collection of poems by gay poets in the 1950s, seems to tell me that society does not actually "progress" much. The defense attorney's closing statement and the judge's verdict were wonderful. Just follow the simple principle of live and let live, but there are always people who can't wait to be a moral judge, censor your book, censor your hair, censor your point, censor your sexual orientation, censor your life. You vulgar, accuse you of being unvaluable, accuse you of being necessary, actually who of us can throw stones?

ps When someone heard cock, asshole snickered, as if it was an irony

It’s better than expected and always reminds me of the wall. This is James’ music recitation class.

Howl quotes

  • [first lines]

Allen Ginsberg: "Howl" for Carl Salomon. I saw the best minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving hysterical naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix, angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night...

[continues reading but unheard, credits roll]

  • Allen Ginsberg: There's no beat generation. It's just a bunch of guys trying to get published.
