And the appearance of the boy who was deep in the dry well added a little suspense and horror to the film. To be honest, I was really taken aback when the kid showed his face for the first time, it was like watching a ghost movie. And at the end, when he stood in the wheat field in white clothes, he was as pure as an angel. The before and after contrast is stark.
What is touching is that Michelle went to the well to see him again and again, brought him water, food, and even took him out of the captivity, to see the outside world, to see the sky, to see the wheat fields, to play, to go Enjoy what you're supposed to enjoy as a kid. He even sacrificed his life to save him.
The world of children, adults will never understand. The whole film is narrated from the child's point of view, and it doesn't even explain the cause and effect of the kidnapped child. We followed Michelle's line of sight and only saw groups of adults discussing something in the living room. We followed in his footsteps, Go through the wheat fields to see another child who is trapped underground.
What I especially appreciate is the ending, when the protagonist runs towards the kid's captivity in the dark, the camera turns to various nocturnal creatures that are either crawling or hunting, accompanied by a very decent and eerie music, that is the child's love. A mix of night terror and obsession.
When I first saw the title and introduction, I always thought that the imprisoned child was "not afraid", but after watching it, I realized that Michelle is the real child who is not afraid of anything. The mysterious child in prison in the dark cave, the intimidation of adults, the betrayal of friends, the villain in the same room, all this did not scare him. Every time he was in distress, the "spells" or "dialogues" Michele chanted in his mouth always brought him courage.
Maybe the subject matter of this film is not attractive, and some of the plots may be deliberate, but the beautiful Italian, the golden wheat fields, and the pure friendship deeply attracted me.
Don't be afraid, there is me.
