Awesome lines and Stewart's performance

This is an old film. From the perspective of the subject matter, it is a love sketch. The director is a good writer of lines. Many lines are witty and humorous, and there is no nonsense. Speaking from the story, it is a bit cliché, but this is the grandfather of romance films. Also, everyone in the story has a sense of politeness and gentleness that we lack now, they're not pretentious, they're sincere and friendly. I like the male lead in it the most. The performance is delicate and charming, but the female lead is a bit ugly.

Christmas Eve in Budapest, the whole movie is just a grocery store, with all kinds of clerks, only Jimmy Stewart shines the most... What a warm movie, I also like the remake version of "Electronic Love Letter".

When Stewart was young, he was tall, thin, and a little hunchbacked, but he had a handsome face and looked silly and well-behaved. He was so patient!

The Shop Around the Corner quotes

  • Pirovitch: [spying through the café window] There is a cup of coffee on the table. She's taking a piece of cake. Kralik, she's dunking!

  • Alfred Kralik: Can you see her?

    Pirovitch: Yes.

    Alfred Kralik: Is she pretty?

    Pirovitch: Very pretty.

    Alfred Kralik: She is, huh?

Pirovitch: I should say, she looks... she has a little of the coloring of Klara.

Alfred Kralik: Klara, Miss Novak of the shop?

Pirovitch: Now, Kralik, you must admit Klara is a very good looking girl, and personally I've always found her a very likable girl.

Alfred Kralik: Well this is a fine time to talk about Miss Novak.

Pirovitch: Well, if you don't like Miss Novak, I can tell you right now you won't like that girl.

    Alfred Kralik: Why?

Pirovitch: Because it is Miss Novak.
