After reading several of Nolan's previous works, you will find that Inception's narrative is actually the most bland and lacking in suspense. Following, Memento, and even The Prestige have used a lot of flashbacks and interludes to disrupt the storyline, allowing the audience to spontaneously sort out the sequence while enjoying the movie and gain the pleasure of watching the movie. The success of Inception lies more in the playfulness and thinking that it describes the dream system and its settings, rather than the artistic expression of the film itself.
