Antichrist – Lars von Trier [Denmark | Germany | France | Sweden | Italy | Poland]

(3-)

I found myself getting more and more afraid of watching intellectual dramas that I thought about you, but I always thought that D dramas were meant for people. Li wrote the text, not for people to read.

After talking about the disclaimer, I think the tone of this drama is a man-God/woman-man relationship. Using extreme violence to highlight male/religious hegemony's fear of women/humanity and demonizing women/humans is actually ridiculous and alienating. I don't think the rhythm is too effective, there are too many layers of fables, okay, you can have a lot of imagery, a lot of symbols, but the narrative is so thin, it feels like a lot of stuff. In addition, there is D over-the-top, which is so uncomfortable!

ps. I really hate the beautiful slow motion of D advertising!

Antichrist quotes

  • He: What I understood, was that you wanted to write alone. So you could finish your thesis.

    She: But I didn't.

    He: You didn't.

She: You see? You didn't even know that.

He: Why did you give up? That's not like you.

She: The whole project just seemed less important, up there. As you said, when I talked to you about my subject: 'glib.'

He: I never called your subject glib.

She: Perhaps you didn't use that word, but that's what you meant. And, all of a sudden, it was glib. Or, even worse, some kind of lie.

    He: I see.

She: No, you don't see. You see a lot of things, but not that.

  • He: Acorns don't cry, you know that as well as I do. That's what fear is, thoughts distort reality. Not the other way around.
