[2009] Roller Skating Girl

The plan of the day is in the morning.
After watching the long-awaited "Roller Skating Girl" early in the morning,
the evil spirit of Germany's loss in the middle of the night was swept away, and
Camel was able to face the new day with optimism and enthusiasm.

This is a good "inspirational film".
It is like a catalyst to ignite long-lost passions and
chase dreams across difficulties.
Let you see that even if there are countless dark clouds before dawn,
they can't stop the red sun rising after a while.

Ellen Page once again showed superb acting skills:
coexistence of shyness and fiery,
cowardice and bravery.
The gestures are natural,
but they are also charming in the inconspicuous.

The plot is rather cliché,
but fortunately, the characters on the stage are all vivid, which
makes the mediocre plot play a pretty good effect.
The details inserted from time to time are
also humorous and warm.

The film is also a promotional film for Roller Derby, and
it is said that many of the actors on the scene are real players.
As one of the female-oriented niche sports,
roller skating shows the agility and tenacity of women incisively and delicately.
But unfortunately, the
film did not reflect its confrontation and appreciation.
Although there are a lot of descriptions of the game,
it is more of a sense of chaos and violence.

Whip It quotes

  • [Bliss finds Iron Maven waiting for her at the Warehouse]

    Iron Maven: Ruthless, Ruthless, Ruthless.

Bliss Cavendar: [hesitatingly] Maven, Maven, Maven?

Iron Maven: Hey, guess how old I am.

    Bliss Cavendar: [guessing] 27?

Iron Maven: [not at all touched] Oh, that's sweet. I'm 36. Guess when I started skating. I was 31. 'Cause it took me that long to find one thing that I was really good at.

[Iron Maven stands, staring intently at Bliss]

Iron Maven: And you know what? I worked my ass off to get it.

Bliss Cavendar: [nervously] Yeah, me too.

Iron Maven: [smirks briefly] It's too bad you're only 17.

    [Bliss stares in shock]

Iron Maven: What do you think the league is gonna say when they find that out? Or your teammates, when they find out you've been lying? That's gonna be rough.

Bliss Cavendar: [pleading desperately] Maven, please, look...

Iron Maven: [cutting her off] No, you look. One day it will be your time, Ruthless, but it's not your time now. And if I was you, I wouldn't even bother lacing up those skates.

[Iron Maven walks away, and Bliss hangs her head and cries]

    Bliss Cavendar: Fuck.

  • Earl Cavender: I can take losing the money. I cannot take losing the chance for our kid to be happy.
