I dare not say that I understand love, my understanding of love can be said to be subverted by this film. I began to think, so that when I read "When We Talk About Love, What Are We Talking About" by American writer Raymond Carver, it seems to understand more deeply than before.
My vision of love is calm, unpretentious, even though people are so desperate for romantic love. I thought that high-quality love would not cause trouble for the other party. After all, two people are two people, each with their own way of life and different personalities and hobbies. Just come together because of "love" and live together because of "love". Forget which philosopher said that life is not complete until one finds the other half. People who have always been self-centered only later realize that "I" is only half of it! If I follow my expectations of love, then even if I find my other half, I live as a whole, and I am not willing to become a whole with my other half. This kind of love is exclusive. On the surface, it is to find a reasonable way for love, but in fact it is a kind of narrow love, just love yourself.
In the movie, Tolstoy and his wife have almost nothing in common, they have different lifestyles, different ideas, different beliefs. But it was "love" that kept them together until they were gray. Because of so many differences, quarrels are a constant in their lives. Because of the disagreement, the countess roared at Tolstoy at the table, and in a blink of an eye, the old man who turned away was stopped by a song played by the lady for Tolstoy. The two had no more than ten minutes from arguing to embracing. Only love can make people turn war into jade and silk in such a short period of time. When the countess asked Tolstoy if he loved her, the old man replied yes, without the slightest gloom in his words. Even when the old man chose to leave because he could no longer bear his wife's actions, he loved her.
What is the distance between ideal and reality? No one can answer. Tolstoy's followers deeply hurt their lover by persecuting an old man in order to create a spiritual leader. The reason is not to delay the happiness of all mankind because of one's own selfish desires. He was standing at such a high place, there were too many last resorts. But from the perspective of an ordinary old man, who doesn't want their inheritance to be inherited by their children, who doesn't want their lover to accompany them when they die. But to him, the great Leo Tolstoy, all this seemed too extravagant. Because of this film, I also understand better what the German philosopher Schopenhauer analyzed in "The Wisdom of Life", that happiness and fame and fortune, and money are not equivalent.
Albert Hubbard wrote in his 1908 book Health and Wealth: If you keep the habits of work, the habits of health, the habits of study, and the love of a woman who has the same Heavenly. I fully agree with this concept and actively cultivate myself to have these three valuable habits. However, this is an ideal life, because you may not be able to find the other half who has the same habits, then you will not be like living in Like heaven. Separating thoughts from reality is so important.
When we talk about love, what are we talking about? It is life, it is trouble, it is quarrel, it is trivial matters, it is sadness, it is helplessness, it is dedication, it is ordinary, of course, there are also small joys, sometimes hidden happiness.
