cheers for friendship

"84 Charing Cross Street" is based on a collection of correspondence between American author Helen and British Mark's bookstore manager Frank. The old site of the Mark Bookstore has also become a holy place for all book lovers today, and everyone who makes a special trip there will give it a kiss as Helen said at the end of the film. The plot of the film is flat, with almost no turbulence, but it is such a film that brought me a little moving. Not only because I also work in the bookstore and experience the various characters and stories in it, but also because of the envy and gratification of the lifelong friendship between Helen and Frank. Great friendship is not lost to love. The spark of love often bursts out in an instant, while the waves of friendship can last a lifetime.

Recently, I found that I suddenly liked the night, and even if I was very sleepy, I still didn't want to go to bed. Feel the silence at night that is not there during the day. At night, the irritable heart during the day begins to become soft, listening to slightly sad songs, sitting alone in front of the computer and resting, my thoughts drift to the space of imagination with the quiet night sky. Is it lonely? Looking at the long list of names in the address book, I found that there was no one to contact, and I felt very sad. Today, with the development of the Internet, the earth has become a village, but the reinforced concrete buildings separate the distance from heart to heart. People seem to be getting closer, but the reality is getting farther and farther. The illusory network controls everyone's brains. We become numb, skillful, impatient and lose the patience that is gradually lost. Many friends, but few close friends. Want to change but can't start. Seeing Helen and Frank's friendship really makes me feel ashamed. Treat people with sincerity and give with sincerity. Helen and Frank did it. Frank was always polite and worked hard to find every book she wanted for Helen. And although Helen is poor and has not gone to college, she is full of poetry and books, and she is talented. She will bring food to all the staff of the bookstore they are in short supply. Trust in each other became the cornerstone of their friendship.

Long live the friendship, even if the Mark's Bookshop no longer exists, even if 84 Charing Cross, London, has become a Pizza Hut restaurant. Still cheers to their friendship.

The knowing smiles of book lovers who sympathize with each other have nothing to do with love. Love the words he or she may read softly on his or her lips, love the words he or she writes in the corners of the title page, love him or her for laughing or get angry about a certain paragraph, love him or her for the book It is another spiritual world created by the fusion of the thoughts of the author and the mood of the readers. by Ai Xiaoke

People grow old with books, but it is the warmth that never grows old.

  • Frank P. Doel: [reading "He wishes for the Cloths of Heaven" by William Butler Yeats] "Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths, Of night and light and the half light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams."

  • Helene Hanff: Somebody gave me this book for Christmas. It's "A Great Modern Library" book. Ever seen one of those? It's less attractively bound than the "Proceedings of the New York State Assembly" and it weighs more. It was a given to me by a gent who knows I'm fond of John Donne. The title of this book is: "The Complete Poetry and Selected Prose of John Donne *and* the Complete Poetry of William Blake"? The question mark is mine. Will you please tell me what those two boys have in common except - they were both English and they both wrote.
