If Alicia was with Will

Why does it seem like all the cases involve Peter who is already in prison? Why do law firms want to be the police to find out the real murderer? (Although the truth is sometimes concealed for profit.) Episode 23 I still don't understand why the policeman's wife should notify the drug dealer. There are many parts of this TV series that I don't quite understand, probably because I can't see the causal relationship. Will is supposed to be a rascal, right? But I'd rather see him with Alicia than Peter.
But I have a hunch that even if they're together, it won't last long.
I really don't understand how Jackie trusts his son so much.
