I have never known how Mandela, as a leader of black liberation, can live so many respected people around the world, even in China on the other side of the ocean, Beyond wrote a song [Bright Years] to pay tribute to this President of South Africa. No matter how I think about it, I still can't see where this power of personality that transcends national borders and races comes from. As François said in the film, how can a man spend 30 years in a cramped prison cell and forgive those who sent you in when he comes out.
Mandela did exactly that. Even though South Africa still has the shocking reality of apartheid today, in Mandela's hands, a new South Africa was indeed born.
He did indeed turn his 27 years in prison into tolerance and love for his millions of people.
Because only tolerance can break down barriers, transcend prejudice, endure suffering, and continue love. At the end of the film, a white man can say, "Not just 63,000 South Africans [at the scene] are supporting us, but 4.3 million South Africans are supporting us." The most hierarchical racial system on this planet can only collapse. I often think that politicians have their solid commitments and sharp methods, but Mandela has a philosophical feeling from beginning to end. Behind the 27-year prison window, he silently recited this Invictus to the end, his soul was immortal and more tender. Between hatred and indifference, Mandela is the true lover. Because he dares to love those who once hated him, dare to forgive those who once hurt him, and dare to bless those who once abandoned him.
If a person has a deep feeling for another person, a group, a country, and a nation to such a capacity. If after 27 years of confinement, it has not been drained, and still maintains a strong love. If black people who have been oppressed for centuries can embrace white people, they can put their hands together in compassion. Then all of Mandela's efforts and silences, his heart of suffering, will forever shine on the land of South Africa, and his name will shine brighter than all the gold in South Africa. He will never be just a president, but a light in all darkness.
It's not accurate to say that [It's all about people] is a biopic, it's a film that celebrates faith. There is no estrangement in the world that cannot be bridged, only the unforgiving heart.
