In the end, perhaps, I can only choose to leave alone, in this ghost world...

I just watched [Ghost World] and felt so much that I didn't know what to comment on. Loneliness and rebellion against the reality of youth? Perhaps the true taste of the inside can only be understood by seeing it, experiencing it, and experiencing it.
The happy music at the beginning of the film haunts every household, but only the heroine, Enid, is intoxicated and crazy. The numbness of the people around you seems to be telling you: You are a lunatic. In the end who is crazy to blame abnormal?
Participated in art classes during summer vacation. The so-called feminist artworks created by the girls in the same class obviously did not take any time and energy, but they were highly praised by the teachers. There are too many people in this world who are valued but are valued, aren't they? Fortunately, my work is appreciated by the teacher and approved as a credential for applying to an art school. It seems that the world is not completely hopeless.
The place where Rebecca works is full of weirdos but she is like Seymeur said: People still hate each other, but they have learned to hide. She quickly adapted to reality so she didn't get fired, couldn't find a job, and didn't have a lot of troubles. But Enid can't learn to compromise with reality. Selling popcorn doesn't want to be smooth. Selling second-hand goods is picky. Picking a house with Rebecca is also absent-minded and not pleasing to the eye. A girl with such a personality said a very harmonious sentence when Rebecca said that he wanted to poison all the weirdos: These are people. Yes, no matter how disgusting they are, at least they are human. Can't you compromise a little more with the creatures that live around you every day?
Dad is too weak and inconsiderate, the annoying stepmother will move in soon, the men are all dressed up in cool fashion, no one understands the new hairstyle, Rebecca doesn't know much about herself or even can't be with her all the time, like The eccentric uncle who has a collection addiction will also abandon himself to date with a woman, and the only remaining hope of entering the art school has been brewing for a while under the unanimous protest of the parents against the application works, and it has been fragmented. It seems that the only support in the world is the old man who is sitting silently on the bench waiting for the bus. Everyone lives like a ghost, without thoughts, passions, opinions, and understandings.
In fact, I have a love-hate relationship with Enid. From her, I saw myself, who I was back then. I still keep that lovely way of knocking on the door, but not much else remains. In the past, I always wanted to make some personality out of the ordinary, and I always wanted to make some waves in the calm, but the result was that I didn't like anyone, and I hated everyone. In fact, the most tiring life is yourself. Why don't you compromise with reality? Why don't you live a "normal" life? Why don't you know how to hide your hatred? Why do you struggle against the world for yourself? There is nothing wrong with reality, the fault is that you are not harmonious enough. When Enid said angrily: Everyone's too stupid! Who is Stupid?
At the end of the film, Enid sits on a bus with her alone, slowly driving out of sight in the twilight. She finally couldn't stay any longer and decided to leave. Perhaps, no matter what, if you can persevere to the end, it is worthy of appreciation and a good thing. Just like the old man who had been persistently waiting for the cancelled bus, although the mottled bench clearly wrote: Not in service, the bus picked up the old man in the middle of the lonely night. Yet most of them have become Rebecca and become Seymeur after long years of struggle.
I hope that Enid can find his final direction, and find a world that understands him and belongs to him. If he persists, he will persevere to the end. If he thinks of change, he will no longer be so mean. We have all been young and rebellious and lonely. The important thing is that we are still living in this world. Let those thoughts and things hide in our hearts.

Ghost World quotes

  • Rebecca: Oh look, there he is.

    Enid: As always.

Rebecca: Waiting for the bus that never comes.

Enid: I wonder if he's just totally insane, or he really thinks the bus is coming?

Rebecca: Why don't you just ask him?

    Enid: Hi. What's your name?

    Norman: Norman.

Enid: Are you waiting for a bus?

    Norman: Yes.

Enid: I hate to tell you this, but they canceled this bus line two years ago. There are no more buses on this street.

Norman: You don't know what you're talking about.

  • Rebecca: So, what do you do if you're a Satanist anyway?

    Enid: Sacrifice virgins and stuff.

Rebecca: Well, that lets us off the hook.
