To protect the password, Joey is caught in a dilemma. Protect the lives of code translators, but never let them be captured by the enemy alive. So, if there are code translators to be caught, they are to be killed. So, this keeps Joey from getting to know these people too well, because he has experienced the pain of losing friends. Because of the wrong decision I made, all my friends died, and I also hurt my ear because of the explosion. He was awarded a medal for being alive or for meritorious service. But then, he just threw this silver medal into the sea. He refused to take pictures because he was afraid of losing them, just like in the previous battle.
The issue of race has always been tangled in the United States. They slaughtered the Indians back then and made them bear the fruit of their hatred. Today, Navajo people look like Indians, so they are bullied by some soldiers. It seems like there is no reason. Do people who are also fighting for their motherland get discriminated against just because they look like Indians or Japanese? Later, the Navajo rescued the soldier who had bullied them, and the soldier seemed to recover. Are Americans all simple-minded people? I do believe that they are a group of people specializing in the art industry. Choose one of your strengths to conquer, as for those in other fields, they are just idiots. Digressing...
I don't know why the box office was bleak back then, but I think this film was well done. Although a lot of time and money was wasted on the war scene, the human nature highlighted in it is very obvious and echoes before and after. Joey stayed away from the code translator and the woman, not because his heart was cold, but because he was afraid of hurting himself again and hurting others again. Turn yourself into an emotionless animal so you won't get hurt.
Joey has been blaming himself for killing his friend, and later he killed two friends himself, but he was forced to. One was in pain because of being burned by the fire, and the other was about to be kidnapped by the Japanese army and had to be dealt with with a grenade... But the kind cipher translator turned me from a "coward" who couldn't kill people to a fighter who could hit every chance. He almost killed Joey, who was protecting him because he knew about Joey's mission.
"You're such a good Marine." I don't know if this is a compliment or a derogation.
