lifetime

In an era of more and more 3D technology, this seemingly simple film seems to reflect the fact that a good film does not matter how advanced the technique is. A few minutes that seem so simple and slow can be more touching than a few hours and tens of millions of dollars.

I watched this film very early, but I am currently taking an animation class, so I re-watched it a few times, because I thought it was a good example of a two-dimensional animation short film. For a self-taught enthusiast like me, watching is learning.

My opinion~ The camera usage, art style, action and music of this film are almost flawless. I think it is a very mature and complete short film work. It is a role model for everyone who wants to do animation independently.

A film like this, which has no dialogue and has to tell the story clearly, relies entirely on the camera to tell the story. All shots are not messy, very refined, and the details are very good. When to change shots, what's moving in each shot, and the slow rhythm are all good controls. Generally newbies and students, the lens is not used so well, which is somewhat awkward.

The biggest feeling after watching it again is that the action of the whole film is so well done. Regardless of whether it is 3D or 2D, the rhythm of character movements is difficult to grasp. For example, how to express a sense of weight is difficult to do. 3D animation often has the problem of no weight and rigid and unnatural movements. The 2D technology is relatively mature. Take a look at the movements in Ghibli's animation. The movements are drawn in 24 frames in 1 second, and the movements are in place and natural. This is the awesomeness. I personally think the highlight of this film lies in the water, the twisting of the reflection in the water, the shaking of the boat when the old man dropped his pipe (the buoyancy of the water is very accurate), after diving, because people feel weightless in the water, they use force but move The slow appearance is very accurate...and the movements are very delicate. For example, the old man pursed his lips and blinked his eyes frequently. After losing his pipe, his hand unconsciously grabbed the pipe in front of his mouth, etc. From time to time, two birds flew across the sky. , are very delicate expressions.

After re-reading, I finally saw those houses in the water, and suddenly thought (as if enlightened), each house symbolizes the life of the owner of the house; this piece of water is time. If it is still standing on the water, it means that the person is still alive, and if the roof is underwater, it means that the owner has either left or died. A taller one means that the owner will live longer, while a shorter one means that the owner has a short lifespan. If the house is big, it means that the owner has a family in this period of his life. Looking at the old man's house, the bottom is very small, the middle starts to get bigger, then gradually becomes smaller, and finally there is only a small space left, which is in line with his life. People - marry - have children - children leave - wife dies - alone. The house of building blocks is a lifetime.
