Large slideshows, some news clips, and interviews with several characters. The theory of monetary and financial corruption, the 9/11 conspiracy theory, the theory of the futility of religion, the theory of technological salvation, coupled with the occasional psychedelic music and hypnotic speeches by voice actors, can indeed make most people think that only technology can save the world! (Or: Only need technology to save the world?!)
The monetary system, financial system, political system, religious system, etc. of modern society criticized by the film are indeed many shortcomings, and some of the evidence used in the film is not groundless. It seems fancy, but it is actually flashy and lacks persuasiveness, so there are a lot of persuasive language to increase its lethality, trying to induce the audience to go to the deep despair and helplessness of reality.
However, halfway through the film, the savior appeared: The Venus Project.
What's the Venus Project?
A bright future where human beings don't need labor, the world doesn't need oil, society doesn't need governments, laws and regulations, elites (I agree with this), countries don't need borders, wars, and humanity is more united than ever are close because there is no competition. We are all connected!
NO, stop, cut the crap. Except for a few pictures, a few flashes or a few gifs, I see nothing. It's not like an ideal, it's more like a fantasy.
The future of mankind is indeed closely related to science and technology, but the key and foundation of our modern society are the maturing, cooperating and mutual constraints of various systems that have developed until now. There are many examples in history that have shown that any system that constitutes human society is in a dominant position and will inevitably oppress the development of other systems. When the economic system or the political system oppresses other systems, corruption and injustice will inevitably arise; if the religious system or the political system oppresses other systems, it will inevitably lead to spiritual control and oppression, and so on. A truly perfect society should be the result of the balance and mutual control of various systems, rather than a single system that can support the overall situation.
The final climax of the film calls for people to start changing themselves. I believe that due to the previous statement, the film has deeply made some viewers feel that they are unwilling to continue to be "slaves". Perhaps many people will really regard Zeitgeist as a new belief, praying that they can seize the "era" in the midst of troubled times. The life-saving straw thrown by Noah's Ark. Sadly, there are only pure believers of "science and technology", aren't they new spiritual slaves?
Is ZEITGEIST a shapeshifter or a new vest from Scientology? Let time prove it.
