"Dan in Real Life", a woman whom I met unexpectedly in Life Video City
, I watched the DVD of the film in Zone 1 earlier. Somehow, a Chinese name that I thought was very appropriate appeared in my mind: Unexpected Woman.
The film is mainly about the family story of Dan (Steve Carell, a middle-aged man, father of three daughters, wife of four years after his death), a newspaper columnist who specializes in teaching people how to live in harmony. The daughters have grown up. The eldest daughter, Jane, has begun to pay attention to her father's lonely state of mind. The second daughter, Cara, is precocious and has no hesitation in falling in love with her boyfriend.
Dan's family came to his parents' house to have a holiday with his brothers and their families. They met Marie (Juliete Binoche) at the bookstore by chance. The two hit it off and talked very well. The woman is the God of Love in my heart.
After returning to the big house, he found out that Marie was actually his younger brother Mitch's new girlfriend.
As the plot develops... I think it will only appear in the society of foreigners. The implicit Chinese will only hide that love in the bottom of their hearts, thinking that it will last forever. Dan's parents encouraged him to find true love. His mother said that the child had done a lot of wrong things, but he didn't fall in love with Marie. He also said that when he met his father, he had a marriage contract, and three weeks later, he was going to marry another man. A girl gets married.
The daughters put their arms around Dan and said, "Go now. Go get her", which contains understanding and support for Dad, which is touching.
"Dan in the Real Life" is another movie that touches the wounds of middle-aged men like me. I recall that I have met female friends who were very compatible, but knew that they could not develop further. They just wanted to fall in love with some beautiful men. Or decadent prodigal sons like me, who are mediocre but emotional inside, can only sigh secretly and sigh like Zhou Xingchi and Lizizi in "Luck in a Dragon": "My daughter, I will help you!"
