Winter Night, Cold...Unlike other American blockbusters, although the person who appears in front of me is the protagonist, Not a hero. As an adaptation of a musical, the beginning is the familiar and brisk melody: SEASON OF LOVE. But who knows, behind this brisk, the main film describes the struggles of those people and the bitter lives of those people.
I'm not someone who likes to watch this kind of dark movie, but I fell in love with this RENT, not only because of its familiarity as a musical, not only because of the rock but soulful music in it, but because Touched by the theme of "love".
This is a group of people who can be said to be the bottom of society: drug addicts, AIDS patients, nightclub girls, gays and poor people. However, although their lives are difficult in our eyes, everyone in the film is optimistic and open-minded. COLLINS and JOANNE, as the only two of these people with stable and legitimate occupations, took on the responsibility of maintaining this "family" without turning back, although at ANGEL's funeral, COLLINS burst into tears and sang the once cheerful I WILL COVER YOU, even though JOANNE and MAUREEN are on and off. So, everyone has their own unique life, ROGER's guitar, MARK's camera, MIMI's love, ANGEL's drum...
Everything was so happy until the cheerful ANGEL left. Before dealing with ANGEL's departure, the film explained the disappearance of other members of the AIDS CLUB with a fade-out method... Life withered in an instant, watching those smiles fade out in front of you, how can you control your tears.
ROGER's realization did not change the reality of MIMI's disappearance. When he finally found that he could not leave the city of the person he loved and could not leave his lover, he chose to come back. WHAT YOU OWN is my favorite song in this film. The rock style is firm and hopeful. The powerful lyrics and rhythm show the courage and determination to live in the moment.
However, at this time, MIMI, who had fallen asleep in the sound of her lover's song, actually woke up again. This leads to the final theme of RENT: NO DAY BUT TODAY. If you like watching tragedies, you may think that MIMI's resurrection is a bit far-fetched. After all, for the overall work, the result of tragedy is more suitable for this somewhat gray style. However, this ending is another ending of the original author of the musical. MIMI's return is a means of balancing the plot... Letting love fly is the ultimate goal of this film.
At this moment, I am here, looking back on the excitement and emotion of watching it two years ago, and leaving these words. Even if you don't want to watch this work, I hope you can find the existence of love.
