I stumbled across this film while visiting a bookstore, and I have always liked stories about Africa. But after reading it, I found that what it wanted to express was so bleak, but it also revealed a little beauty. The film is more like a documentary, from barren and arid Ethiopia, to Cambodia under the control of the Khmer Rouge, to war-torn Chechnya. Everything is something we have never been in touch with and know about.

As soon as Ethiopia

gets there from Sala, the film gives a shocking picture. The famous news photo has been restored, and the vulture is waiting for the emaciated child to take his last breath. After so many years, there is still no change there. The director can still find a boy who is so thin to play, which shocked me. I remember seeing there saying that the reporter who took the photo had committed suicide, so I could feel Nick's pain even more, and it was hard to see the tears flashing on that stoic face. One Life! They rescued a child, and in that environment the power of man is weak. People only do their best to save one by one. During the reign of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, Cambodia was dark and terrifying, and regarded human life as a waste of time

.

This is reflected in the film, the lovely baby, the tragic death of the beloved son, his mother. Perhaps many people do not know about this bloody period, that is because of the secretiveness of the Khmer Rouge policy, this history has been unknown for quite a long time. During their "three years and eight months" in power, about 2 million people died abnormally due to famine, war and other reasons. In such a small country, the numbers are staggering.

Chechnya

Sarah was now a successful UN ambassador, year after year, bit by bit, collecting information about Nick from all over the world. On TV, Nick is not just a humanitarian aider, he has begun to expose the darkness of the world at a deeper level. Yes, after experiencing the suffering of so many people from all over the world, it is always the root of the problem. These sufferings are not caused by nature, but more from human cruelty. Sarah sacrificed for her love, in front of Nico. She was brave, from the beginning. She traveled to Africa for a speech given by that excited man; to see him again, she came to terrifying Cambodia and conceived their daughter. In fact, there is a floating pen buried in front, the Cambodian boy, described the terrible sound of landmine triggering...

Beyond Borders quotes

  • Nick Callahan: Are you wearing perfume... in the fucking desert?

  • Sarah Jordan: Why do you never say my name?

    Nick Callahan: Sorry?

Sarah Jordan: You never say my name. Why?

Nick Callahan: pauses - What's the first thing you do when you get a cold?

    Sarah Jordan: What?

Nick Callahan: What's the first thing you do when you get a cold?

Sarah Jordan: Uh... chicken soup, aspirin, scotch...

Nick Callahan: You never just have the cold?

Sarah Jordan: I don't know what...

Nick Callahan: interrupts - Taken nothing. Just have the cold?

    Sarah Jordan: No

Nick Callahan: No, and that's us, right? We drown it. Kill it. Numb it, anything not to feel. You know, when I was a doctor in London, no one ever said 'medahani'. They don't thank you like they thank you here. Cos here they feel everything, straight from God. There's no drugs, no painkillers. It's the weirdest, purest thing - suffering. And when you've seen that kind of courage in a li... - pauses, tears well up -... in a child... How could you ever want to do anything but just hold him in your arms? You remember that boy in London, JoJo?

    Sarah Jordan: Yes of course

Nick Callahan: He was my first save, 10 years old. So thin he could barely stand. But he still found the strength the bury the rest of his family. We have no idea what courage is... He used to write me little notes. He helped me in the clinic. He was good. He was sweet, he was good. He wanted to be like me, I liked that. I mean, it was silly and childish, but it made me feel good about myself. So I took him with me to London, you know, my talisman, my courageous Africa... - pauses - How could I be so bloody stupid? How could I be so totally selfish? The point is... he was my friend. He had a name. So now I HAVE to remember him. If everybody I lose has a name...
