Changliu's real stories are all narrated in bland and unremarkable ways. Once again, I am convinced by this flat and straightforward expression without leaving traces, which brings shock to people's hearts. The rhythm of the whole film is slow, like an old man, with a cigarette holder in his mouth, after careful consideration, he speaks in a eloquent manner, neither hurried nor slow. And the melodious music, so this story is like a drizzle, and the light dance falls on the side, moist and gentle.
Saying that this is a movie created by David Lynch with a different style, I would disagree. It is a strange thing to let a 73-year-old man with pelvic problems and poor eyesight drive on the road with a worn-out lawn mower. What's more, this seems to be a very simple and restrained shooting method, and the touching story is briefly described without skill, like a syllabary of a magnificent work. But this long journey, intertwined with the wars and fraternities of the past, was deeply hidden behind the blue pupils of the old man. A road movie about an old man gives everyone a natural expectation in front of his inevitable successful ending. A journey, an opportunity to open up dusty memories; an exchange, a cup of pure brew that has not been stained for ten years. The sweetness is in the mouth, but the past is imprinted in the heart. David Lynch, this time just in another way, expresses his cold humor about the long road in life.
Talk about the long road of life. People always feel that they can control their own life, but when they get old, looking back on their life, they are like people facing nature, waving like a king, but they are really helpless. In the end, when we are old, what will we feel most unsatisfactory about? When facing those young people who are showing off their power, I can only force a smile and say to myself, I used to have such a strong physique.
Can you imagine the scene of two elderly people who are almost unable to take care of themselves, each on crutches, meeting each other?
You drove that thing all the way to see me?
Yes, Lyle.
Nothing needs to be said, everything is silent.
